it should, the 68-72 GMC fenders are supposed to be the same as 68 Chevy fenders..

Yes, I put a 67-68 chev grill & hood on a 72 GMC the fenders fit fine. I would recommend putting the 67-68 chev core support in. I tried converting the 72 GMC core support by changing the headlight bucket and it turned into a total pain in the ass and turned out half assed. The "base core support was different even though it looked the same.

What is the difference from the 67/68 GMC core support vs the 69/72 core support?

I can't answer your question....I thought GMC core supports would interchange from 67-72.

I made a 72 GMC core support work for a 67-68 chev grill. I knocked the GMC headlight buckets off, but the big hole behind them was in a different spot than the 67-68 chev. I ended up cutting an even bigger hole that looked terrible. You also have to do some drilling and fabbing square holes for the headlight adjustment screws and drill holes for your gravel pan. I think the wiring plugs were in a different spot as well. The general size was the same, but I wasn't happy with the final product.
