Would it be Sacrilegious.....
to trash this fender. I know there is a lot of good welder/body folks on the board that can do miracles. My skills are not that good and I was just going to trash this and/or use it to pratice welding on...when I get my welder...
I did not want to anger the great Chevy Gods by trashing something that someone could actually find use for. Rest of the thing is solid.

It would be perfectly acceptable to the truck gods if you practiced welding on one of their rusty children.

Hey Bill, if I was going to get a welder I would save it if nothing else to pratice on or they do make a patch panel to fix that and you could repair it for around $40.00 bucks

ahh yes buck
many a fine rad support, fender, have been scarred by the "merciless" dripping battery. i love my chev/gm's but have to say if there were any defects, (if at all) it would be the battery tray area there, gas tank behind the seat, and upper cab (i see rot on the drivers side up near the top corner on occasions) however, the list is very small. Oh yeah, I hate playing with wiper motors and that box that has the blower in it(heater box)? taking those off can be trying at least for me.

gmc the heater boxes in our trucks are a godsend compared to some newer cars that actually take 9 or 10 hours to do a heater core in

If you do decide to scrap it, you can put some of it to good use and cut out some of the flat unrotted metal to use for patch work. It's the best metal you can find and it's free. (unless your paying on that fender!) LOL
I kept my old beat up hood and it really comes in handy for those odd patches. Also, hows the rear section? If it's unrotted, I'd save that part for sure. It would make a perfect patch panel for another fender.

don't get me wrong
cableguy. I would not ever have a new car for that reason. I am just referring to vehicles of that era. And even with those slight imperfections, there is nothing I would rather be driving. As far as that fender goes Palf, I would save it, and repair it one day when your skills are there. There is lots of things you can practice on, but a fender may come in handy. Just my wee two pence
