Re: Center console
The console that you are speaking of is to hold the seat belt when not in use. It's also handy for holding cigarette packs (so I'm told). I believe that the cupholder option was introduced with the 1973 and up blazers as an option, but it otherwise the exact same console. Please don't hold me to that.
I found a console in an old truck that a guy gave me and I restored it by taking it apart, spraying paint stripper, a light sanding, and several coats of black paint. I used Krylon Fusion paint and went through about 4 cans, doing easily 3-4 coats. I then sprayed a rattle can clear coat on it for durability. I buffed all rust off the chrome trim strip and put all new stainless hardware to polish it off. It turned out beautifully and I'm just waiting to find some "affordable" buckets for it I'm not sure where to find the cupholder option, but I'm sure you'll get some replies and help. Good Luck!

Re: Center console
I left the seat belt holders in mine (use them for smokes & phone) & put 1 cup holder where the ashtray was. Works good for me...

Re: Center console
My advice would be to sell your's, and buy the later style with cupholders. You should be able to sell your's for more money than you can buy the later one for because they are a more sought after.
