hey guys its been a while (700r4 question)
well its been a while since i've been back on the forum but now that the weather is warming again i'll be able to do some more work on old blue
as she sits right now its kinda sad in its di assembles state but i'm making some progress. she tore apart mor now than in the photos i've pulled the muncie on it and found some carnage inside so thats gunna go on my list of things to fix , but i found a 700r4 from a local hotrod build i know for 50 bucks that i am gunna rebuild in the next 2 weeks in at the vo-tech that i attend(just so happens we are doing automatic trans right now) my question is what are you guys running for cross members under these in your trucks and where do you recommend a person gets a full rebuild kit (i'm lookin at a tci kit in summit racing right now TCI 378800 ) any input?

You can move your crossmember back a little bit and drill new holes or buy a custom one from bowtieoverdrives for $175. I'm sure there are other aftermarket ones out there as well.

Re: hey guys its been a while (700r4 question)
thats just it i have no rear cross member right now i have the forward cross member and thats it but i'll have the cab off at the time anyways for media blasting and some other replacments so i'll probably just build one myself if i can find some spare time, that way i can notch it to accomidate my dual exhaust a little better after the lowering

Re: hey guys its been a while (700r4 question)
when I swapped over to an auto I made my own cross member. 1 1/2" square tube and a couple pieces of 2x2" angle iron. just make sure you have 2 to 3 degrees of U-joint angle before welding it together.
I would get a kit and all the upgrades from a local rebuilder shop. they can also be a great source of tips. IIRC the last one I did ran about $200 with a new converter. |

Re: hey guys its been a while (700r4 question)
TCI makes a good rebuild kit. Replace everything you can. Bowtie overdrives can get you a new crossmember but if you have some fab skills make one. It will be cheaper. Make sure the TV cable is hooked up right or you will be looking for another TCI rebuild kit. I speak from experience.
