How much should this DROP cost? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have 3" inch drop springs in front and 5" for the rear. I also have front and rear sway bars, a trac bar, shocks all around, and I want to install my headers but need a modified zbar. A shop by me told me they would install my headers, make a new piece to replace the zbar to work with my longtubes, install an H-pipe and turndowns after my cherry bombs, put on all shocks and springs and then align it for $800. I don't have the space or the tools to do it myself so how much should this all cost to install? BTW I have a '64 C20 lwb. Thanks!

Oh yeah that price includes having the front and rear swaybars and trac bar installed. I am going to take it down to the shop this Saturday unless anyone here advises me otherwise. I don't have much of a choice given that I really only have some basic tools and a carport.

I would say that would more than cover it...

I do have one question, what is a zbar? That one threw me...

Also... that price could go up, because once you start tearing these old trucks apart, other things might need to be place as needed. (ie, ball joints... )

Z-bar is for the clutch linkage.

around 250 or so for the drop install,add an alignment,and some extra for the sways and then add for the z bar and headers and your just about right where a specialty shop would be.

Just remember a good nice weekend and if your thrifty with tools could do most of that yourself with extra money left over for mods.

I agree with slammed1... basic tools can take care of the majority of the installation for the items mentioned above.

It sure would, but how much skill and experience would it buy? Some folks just don't have the mechanical ability to do things. They might be best to leave it to a pro.

Find someone to help you, pay them a little, buy some tools, learn something along the way. Or shell out the $800.

I hate to pay someone to work on my stuff. Why pay good money for them to mess my stuff up when I can do it for free?

There's plenty of FAQ's and member photos and steps on this board, that if you can't follow the step by step process, then be prepared to pay a lot of money to body shops/mechanics/...

Spend the $800 for some tools, help from a buddy, and some beer and set aside a full weekend, and just take your time and have some fun... Every time you turn a wrench you're guaranteed to learn something new!

I've decided to do this myself. I have done %100 of the work on this truck thus far, why stop now? I've looked under the truck a bunch and it should be fairly straight forward. Whats the easiest way to swap out the springs? I have a compressor and I just bought a bunch of impact tools with the money I'm saving on labor so this should hopefully be easier than I thought.

You have to be a subscriber to buy ask about buying/selling from members. Asking about vendors or recommendations about vendors is ok.
