73 up rearend for my 62?

i`m buying a 73 up crossmember kit and the guy has the rearend from the truck as well. I know I have to buy the new mounting brackets butwill it be a problem that they are about a 1" wider? Really thats only about 1/2" per side. The guy wants $325 for everything. Is that a decent price?

Man that would be nice. I don`t have the room for a complete truck where I`m at. The stuff is really clean. Looks like it will bolt up and go.

The rear end will fit. I believe it's the same width as a 72 and they work fine. Have you thought about getting 6 lug rotrs and leaving the rearend in the truck.

I thought about it but I want to get rid of the torsion bars and go with coils. i know you can lower the torsion bars with some adjustments but I would just rather convert it. I don`t think the stock rearend would hold up to the engine I`m planning to build for it.

Also you dont need to swap the whole crossmember. All you need are the upper and lower arms and steering.

Thanks. I didn`t know that. I thought you had to swap the entire thing. My buddy did it years ago to his 60 so I thought to get rid of the torsion bar set up you needed to swap everything. The guy cut the frame off behind the crossmember so I can just pull off what I need. He wants $200 for the front stuff with the steering box and $125 for the rearend. They are out of a 73.

I totally forgot that 62's still had bars up front. I think you'll need to swap out the crossmember after all to get the spring pockets.

Yeah i was just reading the disc brake swap l you linked to and most people said for 60-62 trucks to just swap the whole thing so you don`t have to play around with ball joints and tie rods. I`ll just swap the whole thing.

what kinda numbers are you expecting out of the motor you're plannin to put in? you'd be suprized what that rear axle can handle. That extra half inch can be compensated for with different backspacing.

I`m planning to build a sbc to about 400-450hp. I would just rather have a more common rearend for ease of parts as well. Plus I get the 5 lug conversion.
