62 C10 ??'ss

I have a 62 c10 with a 4 speed manual trans. manual steering and manual brakes with a dual hydraulic master cylinder ( clutch/brake combined ) . What are my options for converting to disc brakes ??? Also planning on air bags very soon but keep getting conflicting information on what has to be done to the front suspension . I.e. front crossmember from a 63-66 c10 , 67-72 c10 , or 73-85 ? Are there any benfits of one versus the next. Any comments, suggestions, please help me out . THANKS

73-87 front subframe will bolt right in. I've heard of some guys using the 60-62 suspension with air bags...somehow eliminating the torsion bars and making platforms for the bags...I may have read about it here...I'm not sure. Then you can get a kit to convert the original suspension to disks..

I picked up a complete crossmember set up from a 1973 truck as well as the 12 bolt rearend for $325. I haven`t installed it yet but my buddy did the same on his 60. He said it all bolts up and you have to drill 1 hole on each side. I got the rear because I wanted a 12 bolt and also 5 lug axles.

Well I'm going to add some thing here. I just put spindles on my 61. Now I didn't go with Drop spindles because if I want to lower the front of my truck I'll just do a little bit of adjusting on the torsion bars they WILL let you set the front end down quite a bit. Here is what you have to ask yourself. Are you looking to make this a Show truck or a really cool Driver. I would weigh out what you want to do with the truck. If your makeing a show truck then your probally on the right track with the front suspension swap. If your just making something cool to drive then you may want to just save your money and invest it in some spindles and a Master/Clutch cylinder and brake booster. Turn the front end down and then buy some shortened rear coils for the back to obtain the stance you want.

I know I bought Drops for the front of mine and then decided to keep the stock height and just turn down the Torsion bars. Don't get me wrong it's not dragging the bumper but that isn't the look I was after.

Here is what I know from my recent build, The brake booster and master set up you need to maintain your hyd cluth is about $500 and the spindles are about another $250. I'm not sure what a bag set up is worth but you defiantely have less things to worry about going with spindles and brakes then Bags, valves, lines and connections.

It's just my $.02 both have their place... It's your truck... Good luck with it....

I know a 62 with bars are different than a 63. I put a 82 crossmember in mine then i found this site and my plans changed , now its has 3 inch drop spindles, new rotors ,calipers ,tie rods ,ball joints, bushings ,and bags ,and soon to come tubular a-arms, what im saying is that there is nothing left fom that 82 crossmember than late model motor mount stands. If possible leave the crossmember there and use the money elswhere like a brake conversion kit from
