Vibration on acceleration??

So when I am either sittin in the driveway, if I rev the engine slowly there is a slight vibration you feel in the truck. Same thing when I am accelerating.. Its really there all the time but only notice it when I am accelerating from a stop or going uphill.

Any ideas on what it might be causing it? Dont remember it doing it on the test drive but I was pretty excited about its condition so I might have overlooked it lol.

All I have done it wash the engine bay off like usual...but its running fine otherwise. Just changed the plugs and wires so that is out of the question. Think maybe its the harmonic balancer??

Also..when going in reverse...the tranny goes squeak...squeak....squeak...squeak...until I put it in neutral...sometimes does it at low speed in drive also. what is this?? lol I am about to get the leak fixed and have the trans flushed and cleaned So It would be good to know while we are working on it in order to fix this.

Re: Vibration on acceleration??

Sounds like a Torque converter starting to go bad, pull the inpection plate off the bottom and have a look at the converter and check the torque on the bolts, had this happen to mine.

Re: Vibration on acceleration??

The converter spins no matter what gear you're in....if the engine is running, the converter is spinning. If it's vibrating while you're parked in the driveway, a good way to test is to unbolt the 3 bolts that hold the converter to the flexplate. If the vibration goes away with the converter unbolted you've found the problem. If it still vibrates, it's coming from the motor.

Re: Vibration on acceleration??

U Joints will cause the squeek but if the vibration is there sitting still it also might be the harmonic balancer, I just checked my Burb and I think my balancer has spun, I too have a vibration and When I checked the timing it was 22* advanced, put it back to 4* and it would barley run!! Put her on TDC#1 and check the timing marks.

Re: Vibration on acceleration??

Gotcha haha!!

Ok so maybe just need some U joints for the tweety bird in my driveline hehe.

I am kinda leaning towards torque convertor or harmonic balancer also.

Re: Vibration on acceleration??

i had a noise like that and they changed the torque convertor and flex plate no more noise after that apparently the convertor got loose and egged out the holes for the flex plate and there was somethng in the convertor too

Lightbulb Re: Vibration on acceleration??

Dave it sounds like the converter or the flex plate threw a weight they both have balance weights spot welded to them and i'v seen them go by by on both.....not at the same time and not on the same vehicle but it happens.

If you look at them you can usually tell if one of them has departed from it's spot plus if you see the weight then you can eliminate that being the prob.

Good luck.
