i have a 1982 5.0 GMC 1/2 ton...what years & models can i pull a distributor from that will match...or a web site that has a chart/cross over chart that will help.........thanks

You just need an HEI distributor. My 86 had the one with Electronic Spark Control. You really don't need that, so I bought this one from Jegs. Works great!

Then after it got here I was messing around on eBay one night, and found this one, so I bought it too. This one is going in my 350 that I have out in my garage that will eventually find it's way under my hood. I'd just pick one up off the 'bay because you can find them cheap there. No sense paying more than you have to. They have them at all price ranges. ...Joe

any HEI would work from a GM 8 cylinder from like 74 when it was introducedto whenever they started with the coil packs and computerized stuff

tks for the help...been checkin them out on ebay...but have been noticing a diff. in shaft length...dont want to go through all the BS & it not fit...any way i can be sure???.........tks again

There really shouldn't be any difference for "normal" situations.
The "Tall deck" big blocks take a longer distributor and there are "adjustable" length models that are made for engines that have had serious head/manifold work.
Don't over-think it.

I JUST ordered an HEI from Skip White on ebay. It's a billet model with a 65,000 volt coil. The guys on the 67-72 side love them and Skip's got 100% feedback. Cost was $57.45 with shipping. Can't wait to get it!

Thanks Joe. I recently got an 84 short bed and someonw helped themselves to the carb, intake, and distributor. I've got an intake, ordered the distributor, and now I just need the carb. Should be up and running shortly. I did have a friend give me a distro but it was old and needed a coil so I just ordered the one from Skip.

on a stock motor you will be ok with stock if youre doing performance than it may pay to upgrade ive run stock for years without any problems

The only difference I believe between mine and ChaseDale's is the color of the coil cover. Can you believe over 23,000 transactions and 100% feedback?

Yeah he's a pretty good guy to deal with all right! My coil cover is gray, but other than that, it's the exact same one. ...Joe

Sorry to hijack the thread but I just got my distributor today. Beautiful piece! Haven't gotten the truck fired up yet though, other things to do and buy.

By the way, the FedEx guy that delivered it had the same last name as me. He's got family in Indiana and so do I. Maybe we're related.
