Truck Update! :metal:
Alright here's what i did this weekend on my 67 K10:
New Fuel Filters New Battery New Battery Cables Bashed Starter W/ Ball Peen Hammer A LOT of screwing around on trying to figure out why it wouldn't start What i have now is a truck that runs and drives, but does not stop. I am going to get new drums, shoes and master cylinder at NAPA or Advance. My parking brake is shot, and is that just part of the drum? what is the deal with that? Also i need a rear brake line, where is the place to get that? I'm also going to replace the ginormous hubs and replace them with warn hubs or the like. Does anyone have any experience with these? Any other suggestions as to what to do or what else i should replace? Also, after 10 minutes of driving, my thermostat housing was 190 deg. F, i know that is not normal, there was also some coolant on the intake, should i replace all of the hoses and the thermostat? the housing i would replace at that time b/c it has some weird fittings on it and it is really nasty. I'm open to any other suggestions and comments.

Re: Truck Update! :metal:
Do you know these parts are bad, or are you just throwing money at it? I don't want to insult you but without info on why the parts are being replaced its hard to tell why.
A brake line on the axle tube to the wheel cylinder is easy enough to buy a straight one from the parts store and bend to fit. Drums shouldn't have much to do with the E-brake. Why replace the existing hubs? Just because they're big? Have you pulled the drums, and checked the condition of the shoes, wheel cylinders, and drums? If you need a brake line replace it, bleed the brakes and start from there. Drum brakes aren't that good to start with and most braking is done by the front due to weight transfer. Start with the front. Regarding hoses, chances are pretty good they could all stand to be replaced. If you get an aftermarket inlet fitting (where the top hose goes), don't be too surprised if it isn't flat and leaks. Cheap auto parts are the norm these days. You might want to get one from a truck in the scrap yard. A lot of them are made of mystery metal and rot away. Just a few opinions... Disregard as desired. |

Re: Truck Update! :metal:
Ok, the brakes suck, i have a cracked line on the frame somewhere, it just leaks out of the line constantly. I want to overhaul the brakes because i know they have been neglected, and i want to be able to safely drive it on the road and not kill someone. I want a clean slate and brakes to be able to stop in a decent distance. The master cylinder was re manned in like 92, it is all rusty and nasty.

NAPA should have everything you need. I got new shoes, rear e-Brake cables, master cylinder, wheel cylinders and had the drums turned for my C-10 there. If you have one line leaking I would check them all very closely. Many times when you replace a leaking line another leak will pop up somewhere else. LockDoc

Re: Truck Update! :metal:
dont forget just because the rear reserve in the master cylindar is bad doesn't mean the rear breaks need over hauled. If my memory serves the rear reserve on the master actually is for the front breaks.

Re: Truck Update! :metal:
There is a line leaking somewhere, i think it is the back, because there is a small puddle under the bed.
