Under Bed Mount Fuel Tank Options - Opinions wanted!

Ok, I've been debating on what fuel tank I should get for my truck and have been looking at several different ones. I can't decide which one to choose, so I'm turning to you guys for some feedback. I'm not solely concerned with price, I'm looking for a good balance between reliability, cost, quality, and capacity. I don't want anything that hangs too low either. I will be running fuel injection and would prefer an in-tank pump.

Here is a list of options that I've compiled. If you have one of these tanks, or a different brand I didn't include, I'd like to hear everyone's opinions. I'd like to hear info on capacity, how low it hangs, cost compared to quality/value, ease of install, completeness of kit, overall quality, etc

Why not use a blazer/suburban tank and run an inline electric fuel pump? Tanks already almost fit perfect in the frame and several of us on here have done it on ours.

Re: Bed Mount Fuel Tank Options - Opinions wanted!

I had Fuelcellguy make me a tank to my specs and it holds about 23 gallons. I'm very happy with it and you can't see it from the back....it's about even with the bottom of the bumper.

Picked up a power gas door from the junk yard and located the switch behind my flip down license plate.

sactojim - cost on that? Is the tank shaped like that on the top so you dont have to remove a crossmember in the bed floor?

You do all the body work on the bed yourself? Looks great!

Here is one that a board member is selling....

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=286180

I had a poly setup but wasn't happy with the fit so i'm going for aluminum, non FI though.... The CPP kit is nice looking, no limit engineering was mentioned as well http://www.nolimit.net/

Re: Bed Mount Fuel Tank Options - Opinions wanted!

SactoJim, that's a great looking setup...do you have any concerns with it being Aluminum versus Stainless Steel?

Still looking for some feedback from people with other fuel tanks mentioned.

Yes, did it all myself and I notched the tank to pick up some capacity.

Picked aluminum because that's all Fuelcellguy was doing and I'm not sure what the drawbacks may be with aluminum compared to stainless, besides one being stronger than the other......I don't think it really matters for this application.

Aluminum would be much more likely to puncture, but yours seems high enough off the ground that it shouldn't be a concern. Do you have a rough estimate on cost?

Badass. How much for that kit from him? What other parts did you use? If its in your build thread somewhere, let me know.

Re: Bed Mount Fuel Tank Options - Opinions wanted!

If I remember, he (fuelcellguy) uses 1/8" aluminum and it would take some unusual circumstances to puncture it.......not concerned.

That said, I would rather have stainless because it's just nicer looking.

It's been a few years, but it was around $400 or so. My build thread is in my signature and it has info in it.

Mike, do you have a picture of the filler with your bed closed? I really like what you have done. Rodney

Re: Bed Mount Fuel Tank Options - Opinions wanted!

My project has been going on so long, the truck fell out of the CA DMV system and when I registered it a few weeks back, they wouldn't let me reuse my old plates.

I want to restore them and go back and try again.
