DRIVESHAFT Refurbished !

I am rather stunned.

Just wanted to share with the fine board, something that has helped so much with a slow (daily driving) restore of a 71 C10 350 in the NJ-NY ARENA.

Always had too much vibration, even after doing a ton of work, shocks, springs, bushings (body - suspension), etc...

Finally got to the DRIVESHAFT.

Replaced the Driveshaft Center Support Bearing, and had the DRIVESHAFT repaired proper with professional balancing.

And now she runs smooth as silk.

The difference is really amazing, especially when flying down the freeway.

I know all the top Board Members know it well, but just thought I would remind others of the benefits of addressing the Driveshaft.

Night and day.

Good work drivingslow. After living with a problem for a long time, it feels soooo good to finally fix it. I know because yesterday I got off my lazy rear and replaced a cracked ex mani and a leaking donut gasket. So quiet now!

I had to rebalance mine a long time ago when I did the u-joints and forgot to mark them. The shop permanently marked them for me and it still spins smooth.

if they are out of ballance to where you can feel it, it's a good idea to replace the rear seal and bushing in the tranny.

Thats a good tip, it'll waller the tailshaft bushing out and have seen ruined talshafts because of it not to mention all the trans fliud all over!

exactly, i should have mentioned that.
The brass bushing is there to help prevent the tailshaft from getting dammaged, and to keep from messing up the yoke. If it' gettin beat up with an out of balance shaft, then it's just a matter of time before it starts leaking.
And to do the bushing and not the shaft, that's like taking a shower and putting dirty underwear back on.

What did they charge to rebalance a shaft anyway? Here they want $180 @ the speed shop. I thought that was high???

the markings they tell me are essential.

this sound shop I went to, called AMERICAN DRIVESHAFT SERVICES in NJ, did a great job.

got to watch the owner balance it in person.

very impressive.

Drive Train in okc balance for 40 bucks walk-in, 200 for them to pull it and replace all three u-joints and carrier bearing on my 99 chevy.

cool... I just got a new driveshaft made. I eliminated the carrier bearing permenantly and went to a one piece, amazing how good it feels after all that loose rear end stuff. I was going through those carriers like no body's business and finally figured out that the lowering was creating a little bit o' stress on that support... duh

That's a real good question SAMMY.

I did mine with a little trade as well.

Got it done at $120.

But the shop I used, as LONG HORN mentioned, did a few other items as well.

Not certain if that is a good rate in MO, but I know it would cost at least a 100 in the East to do quality job.

Don't know if this breaks the rules, not trying to peddle, but the shop I used is American Driveshaft Services: PHONE: 732-271-2820

I believe the Owner is to be very trustworthy, small but reputable shop, who knows the older era vehicles extremely well.

And his 'two cents' might calm the nerves about the price at another place.

I contemplated the one piece, but want to keep this C10 closer to stock for old painful stubborn nostalgia purposes.

now I bet that's a good deal, but I feel like I made out fairly well.

of course, I did trade a few parts...

and bought a lunch for the Owner.

yeah thats the one... I've since lowered it 3"/4" and added a tonneau, exhaust, some engine work, etc. That drop really cuts down on the suspension travel when I've got a load of Motorcycle on the back...
