Waste of money time & effort
My project for today was to pull my radiator so that I could fit my newly cleaned and painted fan shroud that I bought from hart-rod, and while the rad was out it to would get a good clean and paint. After all the work cleaning sanding and painting it was time to fit but the shroud fixing points would not line up with the rad supports...WTF? it's a bb fan shroud and I assumed naturally that I had a bb radiator on my bb truck but on closer inspection I think it's not the right size rad (see pics)
My radiator measures 31 1/2" is this a bb radiator size? what is the correct size if not? So now I have to put the radiator back minus my new shroud but at least this will look better after the restore...."dream on" it leaked like a poxy sive from the bottom it seems cleaning all the gunk off and jet washing has opened up a weak spot somewere. I could get it soldered over here but if it's the wrong size anyway what would be the point? I took a load of before and after shots to post on here this evening of a productive day on my baby...B*****ks

I don't think that's the right shroud. Looks like a later model to me

Re: Waste of money time & effort
Thats not the right rad. The lower neck should angle up instead of straight out. That is for a 73 - 87 or a van.
However, with that being said... I've never seen either aplication not fit width wise. I had a 73 - 87 in my old longhorn and then same one into the GMC, and now I have a van one in my one ton. |

Re: Waste of money time & effort
Wrong radiator. A proper 67-72 3 or 4 row radiator (I think big blocks came stock with a 4 row?) should sit snug next to the battery box and use the bolt hole set on the left for the mounting bracket.
Your radiator looks like the 2 row one that came stock in my 67. They didn't have a fan shroud, just the metal thingy on top and used the same mount holes yours is using. It does look like your brackets are proper for a 4 row, they're much wider than the radiator in your truck now. My truck has a 4 row and proper fan shroud, this is how it should look. Notice where my mounting bracket bolts to the core support.

Re: Waste of money time & effort
Looks to me to be a 67 narrow radiator. Wrong radiator for your truck. The upper clamps also look to be for the 4 row radiator, because they are too wide for the radiator you have. Do I need to send you a radiator with the carrier bearing? That would have to go FedEx also.. Let me know. WES

Re: Waste of money time & effort
Yep, radiator is too narrow, you should be using the outer set of holes - the inner holes are for the 6 banger small radiator.

Re: Waste of money time & effort
Just a thought. Might not hurt to see if the lower mounts are the wide ones also.

Where are you located in the U.K. I used to live in Norfolk, in a little town called Methwold. My mom was stationed at RAF Lakenheath. Hope you get your radiator problem solved. You'll have to post some pics when you get your new parts installed.

Re: Waste of money time & effort
When I switched form the regular to the HD " 4 row BB" radiator I also had to knock out the bottom radiator brackets and get the larger ones and I had to notch out the radiator support for the lower hose clearance. You also will need to cut out the inner fender well for the lower hose clearance. Its not just a bolt in item if the truck did not come with the 4 row from factory.

Just an update...took delivery of new and correct size Radiator + 4 new rubber cushions for the supports all supplied by Classic Heartbeat, and it all went in nice and easy the Fan shroud now fits perfectly.
So from this.... To this.... Cleaned and painted shroud and supports I love before and after shots...can you tell?

Looks great!! I didn't see the transmission cooling lines hooked up though.. That realy cleaned up the engine bay, and best of all it will do the job that GM intended it to. WES
