Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

I am interested in buying an Automatic Floor Shifter. Looking for a truck shifter not one thats close to the floor. Had a Hurst and it was too close to the floor - felt like I should have been in a Camaro or something. I've got a 350 SB with a 350 turbo transmission. The automatic column shifter is not working out. When I find a shifter, the linkage will be for sale. Thanks, Harry

Hurst sells an assortment of shift levers that bolt to their shifters for whatever your needs are.

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

I have a B&M Megashifter in my truck, but will be replacing it with a van tilt (as soon as I find one). I can get you some pictures tonight to see if it's high enough for you.

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

Here is the shifter I have. It seems pretty comfortable. I have only driven the truck around the block though. The previous owner put this in, I want to go back to a column shift as there will be times I will have two child safety seats in the truck, and I don't want to be reaching around one to shift. I also like the idea of a tilt column. This shifter is in great condition, and I don't think it has been in this truck for very long. The previous owner had told me that he had bought the shifter right before he sold the truck, and it really looks like that is true.

I just looked this up on SummitRacing.com and it looks like it goes for $200 new.
I would be willing to let this go for half that, but only after I find a van tilt. I am going to the junk yard Monday, so it's very possible that I will get my van tilt then.

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

I am going to attempt installing the linkage again and we'll see how it goes. I've been looking at shifters all morning - liking that Lokar Nostagia Floor Shifter but it's about $220.00. Shifters were not in my plan. The linkage should have been an easy install. I'm tackling a 5 lug swap and brake lines..uggg
Thanks for the reply. If this doesn't work, I'll give you a shout.

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

I'm not proud, I'll say yes. I found 2 holes on the frame that seem to be for the Z-Bracket. With that being said, I put the part w/ the spring onto the tranny. BTW, the tranny is in park. The last bracket, the one with the rod, Is where I'm getting screwed up. Seems the Z-Bracket and the and the Bracket with the rod do not line up with the tranny. Don't know if this makes sense but I don't know how else to explain. I can take some pics in the morning of everything and then I'll post it. Maybe I am going in the wrong direction. Thanks for the offer to help, Harry

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

From your description here I am assuming you are having with the linkage actually hooking up to the transmission. Does it appear to be a couple inches off? If it does, I am assuming that the engine has either been moved forward or moved back.
Lookings at your pictures I assume you have a small block, and it appears to be in the original small block position. Did the truck originally come with a small block? If it's been changed, it's possible that the holes in the frame could be in a different position than you need.
Start a thread with some pictures of your linkage in relation to the transmission, and I am sure someone will chime in with the answer to your problem.

Re: Wanted To Buy: Automatic Floor Shifter

Shawn,

My truck - A 69' GMC, Has had a fewchanges:
  • Originally a 6 Cylinder now a 350
May have been an automatic (when I got it there was a short Hurst floor shifter)
Probably came with PB and PS
I swapped Leaf Springs to Coil Springs

I had an issue earlier in the week with holes for the coil springs lining up. Talked to Wes from Classic Heartbeat about it and as mentioned earlier, GMC Chassis and Chevy Chassis are slightly different.

Your probably right about the positioning of the motor/trans. I'll probably have to reposition the bracket. I will take lots of pics as I go along. Hopefully I have this resolved. I would rather stay with the column shifter. Talk to you soon. Thanks, Harry

I would be very interested in your shifter. Tell me how much to ship to 65109 and I will send the money and wait to you take it out. edin 355
