The '60-'62 chassis is quite different from the '63-'66.

Re: 60-66 VS 67-72 frame, the same?

60-62 used torsion bars in front, cab mounts are different, front frame horns are different where the bumper bolts on. we did a lot of comparison when we converted a 63 2wd that belongs to my nephew over to 4wd. we were going to put it on a 69 swb 4x4 frame but i ended up finding him a 65 swb 4x4 frame and we put later running gear under it instead. disc brake dana 44 front, power steering off of a 73, SM465/205 combo from the same 73, 12 bolt rear from the 69 and brake booster/master cylinder from an 81. we built the chassis and had everything ready to go so he drove up in his 2wd on a friday after he got off work and drove home on sunday in a 4x4. it was a lot of work in a short amount of time but sure made a sweet little truck out of it.

Re: 60-66 VS 67-72 frame, the same?

i guess that kind of answered the question but not really. i was under the impression that except for cross member locations they were basically the same frame. so i guess what i'm getting at is which would be better to do, convert a 64 swb to fit under a 68 truck or chop the 68 lwb to use as a swb

personally, i'd shorten the 68 frame since the cab mounts and frame horns are correct. the frame rails are pretty much the same except the bumper mount area.
