Exclamation fair price?

how much would you pay (labour only) for a 5/7 drop consisting of: 3" drop spindles, 2" drop springs, flip kit, hangars, pinion shims and 4 new shocks?

also install stereo (deck, amp, box, speakers) (labour only)

^i'm guessing that's about 8-10 hrs worth of work total?

i just got my parts today and i'm a little intimidated tackling it myself. i don't really have anyone to help me, i have no shop and limited tools.

i had someone throw out a number at me to do it all over 2 days, starting tomorrow. part of me feels like i'm selling out, but on the flip side, i just want it done asap.

please throw out some figures with what you think the above work is worth.

thanks.

Re: fair price?

your best bet would be to call a shop that does it. They will be able to tell you what its going for in your area. Just remember, they are in it to MAKE money, not do you a favor. They have to tools and the place to do it and they have to pay bills.

true enough. i was going to call my regular shop, but the last few times i used them i kinda felt like i was getting hosed. so i don't know how good a benchmark their estimate will be. still good advice.

i was sort of looking forward to tackling the rear drop but wasn't feeling very optimistic about the front. an option presented itself and i'm thinking about taking the easy way out.

fwiw, a friend of a friend says he'll do the front and rear drop and install the stereo for $450. that's about half the cost of the components.

i've been thinking that's a bit pricey for a father and son team but i'm not really sure. i may just install the stereo myself and offer $350 for the drop.

Re: fair price?

good god! My shop is $45.00/ hr and I have people complain about that. I'm $10-15 cheaper than the shops in KC.

Re: fair price?

i think my shop is about $82 / hr. how many hours do you think it would take for the front and rear drops using the above mentioned components? i read somewhere on here, it was about 5-6 hrs for the front and i'm guessing 3-4 hrs for the rear. does that seem about right?

everything always seem to take longer than you expect it too.

heh. it probably took me 4 hrs to remove and replace my step bumper and i didn't think i was dilly-dallying.

Re: fair price?

I was (and still am) a complete novice and a buddy and myself did the flip kit on my truck in my driveway in about 3 hours and I did the spindles and springs the next morning in about 5 hours. If you have a plan, all the tools before you start you should be able to tackle it in a weekend with no problems. If you can get a buddy to come over thats even better.

Have you ever changed the rotors on your truck or replaced leaf springs? Those were the things that most intimidated me. If I had a step by step list then I would have been great but all my stepping back to gather my thoughts cost me a few hours. If you can afford it then just let a pro handle it but dont do it because you think you cant. I say put some brews on ice, call a buddy and tear into it. Put the money you saved back into your truck.

Re: fair price?

honestly tackle the drop your self , it will help you learn a but more aout your truck plus you will save a bunch of cash. It is intimidating at 1st but thats what this forum is for ask questions if your not sure , it took me and my little brother 15 at the time 2 days to do the drop.

Re: fair price?

I pulled the bed and did the rear myself, and had a shop do the front for about 350 but they replaced the upper and lower bushing while there. should have tried the front and saved the money and learned something. good luck
