Door Lock problems...HELP!
When i bought my truck it did not come with door keys. I ordered a new set of locks, but now when i installed them i can not get the door to lock when i close it, or lock it with the key when it's closed. I made sure i installed the lock and mechanism back the same way it came out. Please help me get this thing locking correctly.

Re: Door Lock porblems...HELP!
I had the same issue with trying to lock one of my doors. I found that if i push in on the door it locks with ease. I'm guessing its just an alignment issue but with getting ready to tear them off i decided to leave it.
I never lock her anyway, if the theives want something out of it, take it, just don't break the glass.

Re: Door Lock porblems...HELP!
like he said try aligning it a bit better so it will lock with the key
;;ocking with the key is the only way to lock these doors from the outside they dont have the option of pushing the button down and closing the door to lock it when you get out

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
If everything is lubed properly and the locking mechanism on door latch isn't froze up and you can lock and unlock it with door open then it sounds as though your door striker plate is either to far in or out, if you try pushing or pulling on door while trying to turn the key it should lock. Then after you determine whether you needed to push in on door ( striker plate needs moved outward, or you had to pull on door to lock striker plate needs moved inward then you can adjust the strriker plate )
2nd_wnd your striker plate needs moved outward some. GMCPaul |

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
Had the same problem on the drivers side. I tried adjusting the striker without any luck. I ended up buying a repop door lock assembly. Fixed the problem. Now I can lock the doors.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
I just had the same problem, bend the rod from the handle to door latch so it's a little longer and has a little tension. There is a little lever on the striker where the door latch "locking deal" slides through and if the rod is "to short", it won't let that locking arm slide through... if that makes any sense.
It worked for me.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
I ended up adjusting the striker plates on both sides, i got the passenger side where i don't have to push or pull on the door to lock it. But the drivers door is giving me trouble, it doesn't matter where i adjust the striker plate to, i still have to push on the door to lock it, so what gives?

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
I had the same prob. There was excessive wear and the wheel would turn far enough that the lock would not engage. Fixed with new latch.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
I had the same kind of problems with the doors not locking. After playing around with it I found that if I had the doors open and turn the key to lock them and hold it locked, then shut them it would lock. It worked for me.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
Sometimes the driver's door on my '69 won't lock.
I open it & then shut it hard (as opposed to "slamming" it) and then it locks fine. It's kind of an intermittent thing on mine.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
I already ordered new locks cause i didn't have keys to the existing ones, and i plan on keepin the truck for quite some time, maybe i'll just buy new strikers and lock mechanism. They are cheap enough and it can't hurt.

Re: Door Lock problems...HELP!
you can't go wrong with changing the lock mechs. After all, they are 40 years old. The drivers side is used more than the pass.
