Eaton HO72 with 14 bolt carrier?
Hey everyone, I have heard around that you can install a 14 bolt carrier/ring and pinion setup into your HO72 housing, using a new locker and all that jazz, making parts easier to find, anyone have the info on what is required to do so?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated, my 4.56 gears are killing my fuel economy!

Re: Eaton HO72 with 14 bolt carrier?
I'm pretty sure you can't fit a 14 bolt carrier in an Eaton axle, but you can fit a 14 bolt Detroit locker or minispool into the Eaton carrier if you use the corresponding 14 bolt axleshafts.
Not to nitpick, but I don't think it's the 4.57 gears killing your economy...it isn't a Geo Metro. It's a drw one ton truck.

^O/D is the key.^
If you want a higher gear, why not swap a complete 14-bolt rear axle? You can buy one for what a gear set, bearings, and seals would cost.

Re: Eaton HO72 with 14 bolt carrier?
Because my truck is a dually and for the moment I don't want to make it any wider because it will mean having to build a new body for the back or narrowing a 14 bolt down. Either way I would be looking at a lot of work. If I put a 14 bolt carrier in my HO72, it will allow me to keep my rearend width and still upgrade my gears.

I dont think the whole 14 bolt carrier bolts in to the Eaton? I think what people are doing is putting the locker from a 14b into the eaton by using the 14b axle shafts, and I think the only reason for that is that the Eaton locker is not available new anymore. Would be very nice if we could use the gear sets from the 14 bolt!!! Lots of ratios available there. Keep us posted with what you come up with, and keep up the good work on that cool rig of yours!
