noticed the other day ... my truck sorta pauses right after the tranny shifts ... ... it has a new cap, coil, vaccum hoses to the tranny and to the carb ... timing setting at about 10-11 degrees above top dead center.... haven't check the points or dwell yet.....

off the subject .....how long does everyone usually warm up their trucks ???...

mines a 350/th350 ...12 bolt rear diff.... dual glasspacks

someone told me that if its doin that..then u need to change the tranny filter..i dont know though...

Mine does that when the choke is still open and i like to let my truck run for about 5-10 minutes before i take off in the morning but my temp guage never gets off the needle...

the tranny filters only about 2 months old and the one i took off was clean

will i have to adjust the timing after i replace the rotor ??

no need to adjust timing after replacing the rotor... I would definitely check the dwell and re-check the timing if you make changes to dwell... better yet, switch to electronic ignition and be miles ahead...

thanks for the tips .... does anyone have any suggestions for a good HEI system to buy .... looking for something fairly easy to install but good quality at the same time .....

should i check the points gap before tweaking with the dwell ....before i bought the truck the former owner said he had just replaced the points......

Go to a salvage yard and pick up a used HEI distributor for 30-50 bucks. Put a new cap and rotor on it, get a set of plug wires for a '75 Chevy c-10 with a 350, and gap your plugs to .045".

To install the distributor, remove your old one, install the HEI with the rotor in the correct place so the timing is the same. Then, run a 12 ga. wire from the BATT terminal on the distributor to a source of power that is only hot when the igniton is on. There should be a terminal in the fuse box that says "IGN UNFUSED" that should be like that.

Then be prepared for better MPG, more power, and easier starts.

BTW, make sure that you get an HEI that is non-computer controlled. A distributor of any small or big block Chevy V-8 will drop right in.

71-longbed, nice truck! It looks exactly like mine (same color and paint scheme), but in alot better shape. I didn't used to like that Ochre color, but after owning my truck for 2 years, i love it now.

Ochre huh .... i never knew what they called that color ....i didn't like it either when i first bought it .... but it's really grown on me .... plus you kinda stand out amoungst all the red and black civics on the road today

Well, i might. Click on "My Daily-Driver" in my profile. I was on MSN communities, but i think they deleted all of my pictures and shut down my site after being on there for 2 years with no new pics. I will get some new ones after i give the truck a good buffing though.

I know what you mean. I almost always have the only ochre vehicle of any kind on the road. Very easy to find in a parking lot

what kinda gas mileage do you get ??

i get about 7 to 9 mpg in the city ...never really drive it on the freeway ... i only live 3 mile from my work......

My motor (RV cam, allumium intake, Edelbrock carb, headers, flowmastes) gets about 10.4 mpg, and that is 50/50 highway city driving. It might get 11-12, but i don't drive it that easy, and the 4-barrell is open quite often

. If your 350 is stock and in good running shape, and you drive it normal, i don't see why you couldn't get 12-13 mpg when you upgrade to the HEI.

Warm up? What is that?
No really, I have never let my truck warm up before driving it. If it starts to run bad, I just rev it higher. I usually have it running so that it is not a problem, but if it keeps stalling, I would just sit there revving it until it wouldn't stall and then take off. That is all history now though!!! You have to love efi! Oh well Good luck. From what I have heard, an HEI switch would be great, even if it didn't fix your problem. I have heard that for HEI, you are better of getting an aftermarket one like MSD or Proform rather than the oem units. Good luck

Im running a rochester q jet (quadra-puke), stock exhaust manifolds and dual glasspacks out the back....my 4 barrels open alot too .... are edelbrocks spring air valves similar to rochesters??? do you know ..

im looking forawrd to getting alittle better mpg's....before i bought this truck i drove a 4 banger mazda pickup ...it got 18mpg's and the motor was very tired ...... bit of a change for me
