Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
well, i was gonna use some scrap round tube i have from work, but it is 2" and kinda big, don't care for how it looks, then I saw this
it is nice and under $85.....so got me thinking i could build it much cheaper, just go to metal supermarket and get the stuff......but, I think a stock one would look nice in there too and I could probably get one from pull-a-part for $10-$15.....I need to make the pieces for the e-brake also......so i should go check Carey's and see if they have a factory one..........as you can see i'm flipping and flopping like a fish out of water....add the fact i've been taking a day off a week (slow time of year) money is a bit tight as well. should have our tax return in a couple weeks and will be able to move forward from there....

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
Go on down to the pull-a-part and get you one. If you change your mind later and want a different look your not out much $$ and this will keep you pushing forward on your project.
BTW, if you hurry, you could go get one today.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
I agree with Tim. Wont you have to get different e-brake cables? I remember you needed those two that got freyed anyway. I think it would be the quick and easy way. Then it would look like mine.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
Have you seen this crossmember from Bowtie Overdrives?
http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=108 It has the emergency brake hardware pre-installed. Not cheap, but convenient. Rick

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
Thanks Joe, it doesn't matter but is that a long bed frame? Cause that is not a tranny xmember. I haven't seen one fro this view. I'm normally looking up at it.

just went and looked at our short bed frame, the rear trailing arm cross-member is in front of the rear cab mounts....if you didn't know, the long and short beds use the same length trailing arms...

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build
If you have the materials and know how...then by all means it is cheaper.
Although, if you consider the R&D, the fact that it's bolt in, and the powder coating....I think the $175 isn't too bad. You think they'll be at your upcoming swap-meet ??
