I have some questions.....
About sound deadening materials.
I have an 81 GMC and don't want a lot of wind and road noise when I drive it down the interstate to work once I get it on the road. I did a little research and found a few informative articles on sound deadening. Can't really spend a lot of money (mainly cause I'm a cheapskate) on this little portion of the project. One of the articles I found said that "Peel-n-Seal" was a lesser expensive alternative than Dynamat and found some at Lowes very reasonably priced. Main questioons are... "Will it get the job done", "How bad is the smell in the sumer", "can I put on multiple layers" Im always open to suggestions as well. Thanks for your input. |

Re: I have some questions.....
Find some sound deadener hat is similar to Dynamat.
Cover the doors and floor. Back wall and ceiling if you get a chance. Multiple layers is possible, but won't really do anything for you unless you are putting in a VERY large stereo system. It won't smell anytime or temperature.

Re: I have some questions.....
I'm planning on replacing all the weather stripping around the doors and vent windows here in the next few months to get rid of all that roadnoise.
After that (maybe before) I was wanting to put the sound deadener inside both doors, floor pan, back wall like you said. I mainly just wanted to get some advice before I dig in too deep. Thanks for the advice. |

Re: I have some questions.....
Raamat or Fatmat. Bot can be found on EGAY for about 120 shipped. This is for 100FT2. I used the Fat mat package and used about 60FT2. Of course I covered EVERY surface in the ruck. I even covered the inside of the door (where your window is ) with two layers. I shut my door and it sounds like a new truck. Not hollow. Of course cant tell you how it sounds goin down the road as it will be a while before she sees that.

Re: I have some questions.....
Unless the vehicle is for off-road use only, Rhino-lining will not do the job. Find some sound deadening material like I mentioned. The doors and floor are the first place you should go with it.

Re: I have some questions.....
I agree I don't believe rhino-lining will help with what you want to do. Just get sound deadening material and put it in there.

Re: I have some questions.....
Thanks for all the responce guys.
I had already gone ahead and bought 2 cans of herculiner and coated every surface on the inside of the cab (for various reasons) Then went back and covered most of it with "Peel-n-Seal". There is a tremendous difference in the sound inside the cab. I plan on checking prices on carpet and insulation as well as all new rubber seals and felt for the doors. I will see about posting pics later today. Thanks for all the advice on the doors and door panels too. |

Re: I have some questions.....
I priced out having my brush guard and rear tube bumpers lin-exed and it was about $500. I’ve seen the inside cab done and I don’t think it sounds as good as a good dinomat job. If you’re trying to save some money you can use a better product and cut it into 1” strips and place them one to two inches apart. It’s not as good as full coverage but it would be better then Rhino lining and A LOT cheaper.

Re: I have some questions.....
spr85gmc,
I can't be 100% sure, but have read here and on another website that 100sq.ft. would be enough. (like I said, not 100% sure) 79, I bought 2 cans of herculiner @ the local O'rileys. Used both on the in side of the cab and back firewall, Then went over the top of that with Peel-n-Seel from lowes. Double thick in some places Triple thick in others. And not too hard on the wallet. |
