Re: free goodies-what have you been given
I guess this kinda counts... I was given my entire truck to me by my father who turned down several cash offers so I could keep it. Been in the family since I was 4, and I'm 36 now.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
The only thing I've gotten for free is this harsh screeching sound in my ears that is normally accompanied by my wife pointing her finger, waving her arms and moving her lips in a funny, rhythmic way. Every once in awhile an audible word comes out. The common ones are: "Stupid", "Truck", "Really?", "Obsessed", etc. But most of the time it's just shreikish white noise.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
A guy had me pull over one time ,to give me a brand new quick ratio steering gear box. He said CPP messed up and sent him 2 of them , so he gave me the extra one for free. It's on my truck now and it works great.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
Corn sent me 2 Holley fuel fitting reducers. Thanks again man!!!
I worked for parts at a local machine shop during my highschool year. Not really free, but I didnt pay for them. A mechanic in town is a friend of the family and he and I "trade" when we need things. I give him things he needs when he needs them and vice versa. It works well.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
I put out an ad on craigs list looking to buy any AC parts for my non AC cab 69.. Local guy, Darren, gave me the inside and out side AC housing. AC core/ blower box and inside diverter box. he was putting a Vintage air in his 68 and didn't need it.
Totally unbelivable. He didnt' want anything for them, but i gave him enough for a good bottle of Jack if he pleased. The guy saved me about $200 in LMC parts and the endless time it would have taken to track down a decent AC housing that isn'tt repoped. John from Yuba City *cite member* mailed me some templates for nothing to cut the vent holes. I only had to pay $40 for the selector head and vents and a little for a gasket kit. That kind of Karma is very muchly appreciated and has been passed on several times. I just hope someone down the line gets as good a gift as i did. People..... people who need people........ LOL *sorry to get so obscure in humor with this last line. it'll crack a smile for a couple folks* but seriously, thanks to everyone and all the advice while i'm at it.

The best freebie I've got is a NIB driver's side door skin(actual GM stamping), 'cause my neighbour thinks my 'burb is cool and he likes my 120lb guard "puppy".
Dog gets treated better than I do.

That's cool! Hope you can do something with it - looks like a real solid car. I got my buddy buckets free, I guess - just had to trade the old bench out of my truck for them.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
these are some cool stories. yeah, i've given away lots of stuff over the years, sometimes to total strangers thet were down on their luck or needed some parts to get their truck back on the road.
one i had forgotten about--i was yardin' one time and met a guy looking for a hood latch assembly and some other 68 stuff. the yard didn't have anything he needed so as he was leaving, i stopped him and told him i had the stuff he was hunting for. he followed me home and i dug out the stuff he needed and handed it to him, he asked how much and i said he could take it for free. he phoned me a few days later and ended up giving me a complete 69-72 chevy front clip that was in perfect condition. he was hunting the 68 stuff so he could finish converting his 69-72 over to a 68. i guess "karma" worked in my favor big time on that deal. i'm sure i have more stories hidden in my little pea sized brain, i'll post them if they surface again.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
One day a few years ago I was in the Wal*Mart near where I work. This bald guy keeps staring at me. Finally I said hello. He says, "Don't you remember me Matt?"
After pointing out that it had been about 10 years and he used to have long hair where now he has none he was ok with me not recognizing him. It was a former next-door neighbor's boyfriend. When I knew the guy he drove around a 75 Monte with factory ralleys. It was a rust bucket. I always told him I wanted those wheels when he junks the car. Years go by. They break up. The neighbor moves. Then I move. Then I run into the guy 38 miles away down in the Cities. He says remember those wheels? I said of course I do. He said he junked the car but still has the spare for me. I said gimme your number and I'll stop by and pick it up. He said forget that I'll give it to you now. 10 minutes later I was rolling the tire/rim across the parking lot and tossing it in my car. Good timing too as I just purchased a set of 4 that aftar I had them blasted I noticed while painting them that one was cracked and welded back up. Now the welded one is a spare on my 71 Malibu and the other 4 are on the car. Oh and in about 1984 I got a 1971 Malibu 4-door for free.

Re: free goodies-what have you been given
Ive been at the right place at the right time a few times I guess. One time my wifes cousin the doctor ,more dollers than sence, bought this house and in the yard was a 67 camper cruiser that the previos owners freind was coming back for.Well I watched that truck sit there for 2 years and when I asked about it again her husband said that he had called the people a dozen times or more ,sent them a registered letter and they wouldent even return his calls anymore.I offered to buy it telling him he was no longer obligated to keep it any more{in R.I. you dont need a title over 10 years old}Then he says "buy it you would be doing me a personal faver if you would tow that peice of sh#* out of here"Needless to say I did. i got it running and drove it for a couple of years and still have it and hope to restore it and convert it to a 4x4 soon.Another time a neighbor gave me a toyota pickup and it had some firestone tires on it that were part of that recall a few years ago so I put them on my Chevy van and the Firestone dealer replaced them free with brand new tires. Then I traded a freind of mine the toy for a 67 chevy c30 cab and chassis that among other things had a mint pair of buddy buckets in it! The list goes on but those are among the biggest.
