sugestions wanted for a small garage

So since my parents first bought this place (I bought it from them) there has been a detached garage. Its kinda small 24x14 and only has a 7ft door. It has ben used for various clutter over the years.
WELL a week ago I figured I would clean the garage and wire it for elec. I am just now getting it somewhat close to a decent work space. I had to clean TONS of junk out of there. Some minor repairs, demolition of shelves and cabinets. Basicaly all thats left is a medum sized work bench in the back. Being its so small I dont want to take up much space. So if you got space saving ideas please share them. One thing Im going to do is a small lean-to type structure outside, to house my air compressor.

Re: sugestions wanted for a small garage

good topic. ..... I have been sorting/organizing my own garage. and I will do my best from here on out to follow my own advice,..... Hey kent, once you have it clean and organized, keep it clean and organized,.. because a clean and organized 24by14 beats a dirty and unorganized 25by40 most days of the week.

having a guy close by that rents me fairly cheap inside storage, that has 3 of my vehicles inside, that are packed full of misc. helps too

life is good,kent

Get yourself a nice compact rolling tool cart if you dont have one already. Not only will you no longer search for that damn 5/8", but you'll save a lot of space not having tools on the ground. How high in the ceiling? Im not sure what you are doing to your truck, but if you are doing a full tear down/resto, you could throw a couple 2x4's or similar over your rafters and make some chain/aircraft cable to hold your body panels overhead. Move as much as you can up and off the floor.

Get a garden shed and keep the mower, rakes, shovels, tiller and other "household" stuff out there! If you have woodworking equipment like table saws and chop saws- they make slick folding stands for them so they store much more compactly. Like was said earlier- if you have the headroom, get as much crap off the floor as you can.

That's the ticket. everything that can be hung on the walls or ceiling should be! And the shed for the lawn equip is a good one too. Can you put plywood down on top of the rafters (if it has rafters)? If so there's more storage space there too.

I had a small garage 24x24 and built a lean to with a concrete pad beside it. Lean to's are cheap and you get more space under the roof.

You can always enclose part of the lean to later on.

I agree with BlkBeauty. If the guys over at Garagejournal don't have any ideas there aren't any.Their garages run from a small one car to a warehouse they call a garage.

Re: sugestions wanted for a small garage

Thanks guys. I used to think it just wasnt worth it to try to work in such a small garage and used to do everything out back in the dirt.

My 67 is currently a c30, so the cab will come off and go on a 1/2 ton frame. I figure it will be just as easy to do the body work on the cab and front clip once they are off the frame. There should be plenty of room to get a frame in there and do the work it requires. once its done and painted I can roll it out and move in the cab, ect.

So far I got the garage cleaned out and 99% wired. next ill throw up some insulation and perhaps some plastic liner stuff. Maybe next year I can sheet rock it. Im looking at some of the modular cabenets like you can get at lowes homedepot ect.
