Thinking about a Mcgaughy's brake setup suggestions or opinions welcomed
Hey guys i have 67 chevy with 6 bolt all the way around, and have seen McGaughys advertised and they seem pretty reasonable.
6 Lug Rotor kit includes: 12" rotors, calipers, Bearings, seals, hoses, dust caps, and spindle nut. $219.00 for the kit Also i know i am going to need the spindles and they sell a 2 1/2 inch drop spindle for 229.00 a pair, or the stock spindles for the same price. Basically the truck is going to be used for hauling the occasional vehicle but nothing to bad. So have you guys heard good or bad things about these McGaughys setups.. Anything else i am going to need for this swap. I know i am going to have to a new master cylinder and proportioning valve for the swap.. What else will i need to do to make this swap a success. thanks John |

Does anyone have a web address for McGaughy's.
I'm considering changing over to disc.

I live in the Fresno Ca area where he makes the stuff and I'v seen the shop where he makes all the parts, very nice shop and he makes all spindles on site and also met him as well. He is pretty nice and his spindles are pretty good for the money. But his rotors are made in china and his calipers are not from 71-72 chevy trucks, I think they are from a late model truck like 80 on up but not sure, because of the size of bolt (metric, I think) that holds the brakehose on the caliper. If you get the kit you must get all the stuff including the hoses (longer than OEM), that the key in his kit, because you can not use the stock 71-72 brakeline hoses. Also no dust shields, and bearings not made in states. But I'm not saying thats bad. That how he keeps his prices so low. But if you want stock replacment stuff just spend the extra money and get the ECE stuff. They are in Fresno as well, and I know Dave and Stan too, A little more money, but well spent. But again I'm not bashing his stuff, it just easier getting parts for our trucks than mixing up stuff that would just make thing hard later on. If you guys know what I mean. Just my 2 cents.

The rotors are made in canada, the calipers are 81-87 GM fullsize truck calipers for more ready availibility, the hoses are longer than OEM and differ from 71-72 so that you can use original hard lines and not have to swap to 71-72 steel brake lines, the bearings are 71-87 Chevy & GMC 1/2 ton inner and outer bearings and seals again for easy availibility. Dust shields are not included but we do offer them, as dust shields are actually a matter of taste as disc brakes are self cleaning and many modern vehicles no longer use the shields on the inside and with todays modern wheels rotors see no more protection on the face than they do on the back side.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering why the calipers came like that. Also Do you (GMC Paul) get the hole kit from Dave Mcqaughy's Shop or do you just get the spindels only and add your stuff to it, Because I just bought the spindels and did not buy rest of kit because what I saw on the rotor boxes. But love the spindles. Bolted right on and had no problems with them.

I just finished installing the 2 1/2" drop disc conversion from McGauhey's (purchased from GMCPaul's).
The kit didn't have any instructions with it, but it isn't exactly rocket science. You can see what few pics I took here.
