Rubber trailing arm bushings

Hi i have a 71 GMC 2 wheel drive and im having a hard time getting the rubber bushings out of my trailing arm. I was wandering if any one knew any tricks, or if all i neer is a bigger hammer. Thanks

I tried for a little while with a propane torch and took them to a friends shop with an oxyacetylene torch and they were out in 3 minutes

You're probably better off burning them out, if you try and press them out (like I did) you will probably bend the end of the trailing arm in (like I did), then I ended up burning them out, but the smoke that burning rubber makes is pretty nasty,fyi.

Do it over a trash can, and use a plumbers torch and a hammer. See if this Helps

for anyone interested i used a little propane torch and heated up the metal sleeve till the rubber caught on fire and then pushed the sleeve out with an old bolt. When the rubber cooled i used a pair of pliers to pull it ot. Worked great
