time for a gas tank

Ok i finally have a little time and a little money. i am ready to get this thing out of the bed. i also found a cheap deal on a tailgate but can't afford it and a tank. what is a cheap good fitting tank or fuel cell that fits between the rails without cutting. i'd like to keep the tank and hoses below $300.

Go with the Blazer kit, There are 2 different tanks though. 1 holds like 30 gal and the other holds less, go with the smaller or it will hang down lower.

I agree on both counts. Spend the $25 and become a member and go with the underbed blazer tank. I used a 21 gal. tank from GMC Pauls and am very happy with it. Also, his customer service that I have experienced is top notch. Lots of options for a filler neck, just be sure and vent well so it fills as it should.

i was thinking about a poly cell. what do you guys think about the summit prostreet. 16 gal w/ 2in sump, foam insert, and sending unit for 170 or 160 w/out foam.

Not a bad looking tank - price seems good also. What are the dimensions especially hanging down? Are you planning on leaving your truck stock height? You should be allright if you lower your truck but I'm not really crazy about the supply line on the bottom. I see it has a top of tank filler. Be sure to search the previous threads on filler options. We have allot of very creative board members who have done great modifications.

the dimensions are 25in X 17in X 9in so it should only hang down about 4-5 inches at the most. other threads talk about moving the rear crossmember back 1 1/4 inches. as far as the fuel lines, that the only thing i am worried about. for the sump to work properly the fuel lines come out the rear. not real big on that idea but i don't think it would be that bad.


does anyone have any install pics of this tank with the bed on and off?

got the tank in today. it didn't take too long. i also found out that the fuel hose that the owner before me ran was rubbing on the driveshaft. it had almost burned a hole through it. anout 2mm thick. damn glad i caught that.

That looks great, and the price is certainly right. Can you list out all the parts you had to use and total cost? Are you using the stock mechanical fuel pump or did you switch to an inline electical unit? What are your plans for the filler?

i've gotten lots of cheap tanks for many different vehicles over the years by measuring with tape measure the space it will go drawing a diagram then to a junkyard tapemeasure in hand and quite a few times for less than $10 found something that meets the needs and that lasted for years

drove it a few months with the tank in the back. it had a couple of bolts holding it down

running a mech pump and as for the filler, i cut a hole in the bed for now.

i went to the pull-a-part yard and looked around for hours. couldn't really find anything. it hard to find a tank to fit between the bedrails that won't hang down too much. most stock tanks are around 10 to 13 inches tall.

Does that tank have any way to attach an extended filler neck so you can bring it above the bed? I guess the nice thing about steel tanks is that you can cut and weld it to fit your application.

i've seen filler necks that attach to fuel cells but i'm really not worried about the filler. i only drive it about 15 to 20 miles a week(just to work and back)

Granted you might not drive it much, but its an awful nice looking truck to just leave it with a hole hacked in the bed. I would just assume you had a plan how you wanted to finish it out. I plan on converting my longbed to wood at some point so I have to keep that in mind as I plan out my under bed gas tank purchase.

wood would definitel be a nice touch. but i do plan on covering the hole with a fuel door. something like this one.
