Gas Tank Wiring-Again

I finally got around to working on my wiring problems. As I posted previously I have a wire hanging down below the truck that I originally thought was the gas tank ground wire, but after looking at a wiring diagram I am not so sure anymore. From the diagram it looks like the ground wire is a short wire going straight from the gas tank to the frame.

This wire comes from the front of the truck. It is redish-brown in colour, with a connector on the end that looks like it is supposed to fit over a small post located on top of the gas tank that I can see between the cab and the bed of the truck, but can't reach or get at. I've attached a picture of the wire below. Anybody know what this wire is? Is it indeed the ground wire, which means I can just ground it through the frame, or is it for something else?

hey dude thats the positive lead that snips in firmly onto the float assy just so you know
your ground is the black wire typically is bolted directly to the frame

Re: Gas Tank Wiring-Again

Okay thanks, I figured it wasn't the ground after looking at the wiring diagram. So I guess I have to drop my gas tank to get it back where it's supposed to be?

Re: Gas Tank Wiring-Again

look in the boot right there....
inside it you'll see a little hole that's the "clip" or female end of the connector
on hop of your float assy you'll see just a straigh peice of copper (usually copper) connector less then 1/4 in tall that boot clips directly on that...
i got sick and tired of dropping my tanks so i just released my bed bolts and lifted it up with 2x4's and used as an excuse to replace my old coroded bed bolts....

but if you do in fact drop the tanks it's easier to just loosen the front bolts and let the tank loose and remove the rear bolts it'll give you a good angle to get in there and put the electrical connecter on so you do not have to fully drop the tank or siphon out all yer gas =-)

but if you are gonna drop the tanks you might as well replace the sending unit or "float" while it's down ... and the rubber hozes...

and i HIGHLY reccomend using "pb blaster" penetrating catalyst the stuff is insanely good on the old rusted bolts (my trucks from florida and the ranger is from michigan)

and also RE-SAND your grounding station.. you need good solid grounds
