While I would roll with the inline... the big block cad would offer all the torque he could ever need(in stock form) and if the rear was swapped out to a 3.07 gear, it would more likely than no knock down better MPG than the inlines, or any other old school motor that would typicly find it's way in there.

As for installing it, you could always offset it to the passenger side.
