What do you mean..."the fins are blocked or air"? What about adding some "ice" additive to the coolant? I do think it is a timing issue...the more i look into it the more it seems that i need to retard the timing a little. I am going to barrow a timing light tonight...which direction do i turn the distributor in order to retard the timing?

Re: Pinging...still haven't figured it out
From the shade of my tree, I ask are the spark plugs the correct heat range? Does "reading" the plugs reveal any good info? Such as; blistered porcelean on the plug, only one plug looking overheated, or all 8? Sometimes going to headers, warmer cam, faster ignition advance curve, ect. dictates a change to colder plugs. Just my 2 cents

Re: Pinging...still haven't figured it out
Ok, i will pull the plugs once I'm done putting the exhaust back together. The last time i pulled the plugs (about a month ago) i didn't see any heat related damage. They were totally fouled...but that was from the old carb.

Products like "Ice" and "water wetter" are generally made for guys that run straight water. (Race cars) Your normal coolant mix has the surface tension inhibitors and other additives that these products would give you. |

Re: Pinging...still haven't figured it out
I'd check your radiator flow. Pull the cap off first and look down into it and see if the tubes look cloged. You might have to let out some of the coolant. To check the flow you have to pull the radiator and run water through one end (side) with a garden hose and see how well it flows through the tubes.
