Carb idles too high

So I got a reman carb. Installed it. The truck runs great. But it is idling way too high. I got up in the morning pressed the accelerator and she turned over on the first turn, but it sounded like she was doing 8000 rpm! I pressed the accelerator again she calms down (a little). But still too high. I backed down the curb idle a bit but that didn't help much. I am curious as to how I adjust the fast idle and if it will help, thanks.

What kind of carburetor?
Choke connected? adjusted?

check the vacuum lines too

If you look on the left side of the carb. you will see it. It's not the vaccum pods. It's the levers with the counter weight. What you do is open the throttle and put it on the second step. Spec. is usually about 2500 RPM. If it's at 8000 RPM you might want to back it out some first.

Thanks all. I think I solved it. It was a timing issue.

Take a look at your "HIGH IDLE" cam for the cold start. Is it holding the throttles open to much? This is outside of your idle screw adjustment and could be more of your problem, than the timing. What did you set the timing at to solve your problem?

Maybe I'll get an education: I don't know how changing your timing will significantly reduce your cold start rpm (say from 8000 to 1500 or 2000).

I can imagine that changing the timing would set the engine at a point where it is so low the idle RPMs dropped off and now the performance is sluggish and the engine is overheating.

I have vision that if properly adjusted the timing should be at the factory setpoint or in my taste about 13 degrees BTDC intial timing. Then the cold start idle or A/C solenoid idle adjustments set to hold the engine at about 1200 on cold start and the A/C set at 900 in park.
