Turn Signal Replacement
Over the weekend my turn signal broke inside the column. The actual lever is still intact, instead it was a little piece of plastic that broke and fell out of the column. I'm not sure what it was. Now the lever moves up and down quite freely and if I try to signal to the left or right it doesn't turn on the signal, but instead honks the horn!! Anyone had this happen before and where would be the best place to find a replacement?

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
Happens all the time in a 40+ year old truck. The reason the horn is honking is because a now mis-aligned metal part of your busted t.s. switch is grounding out against the horn pin in your column at certain wheel positions.
Pull your steering wheel and schlock in a new switch from Wes @ Classic Heartbeart (they're like 28 bucks + the ride). It'll take ya' about an hour and you'll be good to go for another 40 yrs.

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
I noticed that my local AutoZone has the turn signal switch, however the plug looks way too modern for a '67 truck. I also noticed that LMC truck sells the switch with the adapter. I'm tempted to get it at AutoZone because I could do it now and avoid a driver's side window side chat with my friendly neighborhood officer. However I'm wondering if my instincts are right and I'll need a special adapter to make it fit? Is this correct?

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
The turn signal switch from autozone will have the newer style flat harness and may or may not come with the half moon harness adapter. Best bet is to swing by Autozone and take a look at it.

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
Thanks for the previous replies. I bought the unit at AutoZone ($27 or so) and it did include the half-moon shaped adapter with it. I installed it over the weekend and had mixed results. I now have Hazards, which I previously didn't realize had broken off, and they work great. But I turned on the turn signals and I heard erratic clicking, like it wanted to work but the signals turn didn't come on. I went to pull out the relay to check it and YOWWEEE, it was cooking!! I bought a new relay to put back in but my question is do they normally get real hot when they go bad or does that signal that I have a short somewhere in the column? I'm not concerned about the $2.99 relay toasting again. I'm just worried that I'm also cooking something else at the same time.

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
I had pinched a wire when I put mine together and it did the same thing.

Re: Turn Signal Replacement
I agree, sounds like you are grounding a live wire somewhere
