Difference between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames?
I did a search but didn't turn up any results, what is the difference between these frames if any? Oh the truck I am looking at is a 1970 C20 402/400.
Thanks in advance, Jared

Re: Difference between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames?
nothing major.
Ther cab mounts are lower on the frame, this is to have more ruber between the body and the frame for a better ride on the stiffer coils. On coil spring frames, there are some added braces. Some where the trailing arms meet the frame, some over the front cross member, the trailing arms are beefed up a bit. I'm sure there's a few more spots. But for the best part.... the frames are the same. However... a longhorn, even 3/4 ton, is nothing like 1/2 ton frames. |

Re: Difference between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames?
- the easiest (visual) way to spot the difference is to see the location of the rear cab mount...I searched the forum for some pix to show the difference.
1/2 ton frame: the cab mount top is even with the top of the frame rail (top 2 pix below - labeled) 3/4 ton frame - the cab mount top is lower than the top of the frame rail (bottom 2 pix below - labeled) Hope that helped. |
