Old stock split rims

Does anyone even use them anymore?I am wondering if I should post them on Craigslist to get rid of them.I decided to get bigger wheels and tires. Is it even worth my time or should I just take them to the scrap yard? Thanks!

Re: Old stock split rims

The only folks that I know of that still use them are people who are doing very strict stock restorations.

Re: Old stock split rims

Split rims were a heavy duty option used on pickups up to the early 70's. They often get a bad rep, but they built America and won World War 2. The older pre '65 GM 3 piece 15" wheel had a recall, but the 2 piece 16" rim (shown is photo) is totally safe when installed correctly. They are still used today on heavy duty trucks. They are more expensive to deal with because of the liner, the tube and the extra charge to break down (at truck tire dealers only). Should you use them? It all depends on what you want to do with your vehicle. Just remember, split rim wheels were an option, and 1 piece wheels were standard on these trucks when new. The problem seems to be the original 1 piece wheel sizes are harder to find tires for today and many 3/4 tons end up non stock wheels and tires. It all depends if you want to own an authentic period correct vehicle or a modified vehicle.

Re: Old stock split rims

I've got a set of these with tires and hubcaps. All 5 from a 66 C20 with only bout 40' miles on them. I have them listed on Craigslist right now as well as ebay. Good luck!
