Never a repop grill again (evil little birds)

So I humming down the highway 4 inches off of the ground when I see a little bitty wren (bird) take a dive towards the grill of the truck and hear a "boink"... ah jeez, probably stuck in the recess of the grill.

Get to my next stop and what do I see? A huge dent in the divider section of the grill... this was a little bird!!! And it probably flew away laughing...

Needless to say, I placed a temporary carbon fiber cover over the grill section (truck has lots of carbon fiber stuff) until I can afford a OEM grill.

---- AS A TECH TIP - If you ever want to remove the black paint applied to one of the repop grills (the cheap paint that starts wearing away by the third bucket washing)- decal and gasket remover works great without harming the cheap metal...

Aw that sucks. What do you have on your truck that is carbon fibre? Do you have rolls of carbon fibre?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the stock ones don't hold up much better. I had a small branch from bush (not a tree, A BUSH) dent the factory grill in my '69 C-10 ramp truck. The 67-68's and probably the GMC's are much tougher!

Re: Never a repop grill again (evil little birds)

Be very lucky it wasnt something bigger. Years ago I had a 76 El Camino. Really nice ride. I was cruising down a back road with some friends. We came over this hill and bam bam! 2 birds came flying up out of a ditch and flew into the grille and head lights on the right side. I thought they were quails...Chuck thought they were ducks...I stopped and backed up and turns out they were pheasants. One was dead...the other was still alive. I smacked the hell out of the one that was alive threw both of them in the back of the Camino...and they were dinner that night.

I agree. Most people believe that the current OEM? grilles from GM are superior. They are really not much better quality for whaqt they charge for them . They will come split/cracked in the corners etc. I still think they fit better but for the money they charge?
