Hey, OK guys.....

Is that Daryl Starbird show up there in Tulsa worth checking out? I was curious about whether this was a local thing or a larger event?

I know here in Tx, the Dallas autorama leaves alot to be desired when compared to the Houston show.

I have never been to it. At the OKC show Daryl was going on about it (Tulsa) being the biggest or one of the biggest indoor shows in the country. Should be about a thousand cars. Size has nothing to do with quality so who knows.

It's not bad, some show cars that are paid to be there, plus a lot of the customs you see driving around the Tulsa area. Bad thing is this year they're having the monster trucks and motorcycles indoors, which at the Expo really sucks (noise, smell, etc.). I haven't been there in several years since they raised the admission price to $15/person. Not worth that much to me. Plus, if the lower level is full of monster truck and motorcycles, I don't see how they are going to get 1,000 cars in there. There's never been much of a vendor showing at the Starbird shows either. But, if you have the time and $15 to burn, have at it!

I wound up going to the show last night! I called a friend with a '40 ford pickup (very nice!), he reminded me that you can get in for free on Thursday nights. His truck is in the show (primer black with orange flames, look for it) and Thurs night is the setup time. All the doors are open and all the cars are already there. Just go in like you're supposed to be there and you can see all the cars. Naturally I didn't bring the camera, as soon as I got there I wish that I had. I think last night was worth the price of admission.
Also, there is no frikkin way there is 1,000 cars in there. Maybe if you count all the Hotwheels for sale at the vendor tables.

As of last night there was no stage set up like they used to have with the Texas Bikini Team, just a little booth and table for overpriced photos and calendars to have signed. But for your sake Gene, I hope you're not disappointed!

Well I was trying to figure how I could justify the small road trip w/the ruler of the house (wink, wink). I really need to get that hood in Enid & would like to meet up w/some OK members for a frosty beverage but if she knew I was going to get more parts, what I've already got @ home would be @ the curb.

She doesn't understand the concept of buying @ a lower price when availible.... I like to make my $$ go as far as possible.

Anyhow, all this is mute since my 'lil brother borrowed my beater for a 'couple of days' the week of the superbowl. I don't trust the 74 yet for a road trip. It seems it's a limited edition 74 w/the Duramax diesel engine in it.....j/k, @ least that's what it sounds like going down the road.

In that case, COME ON UP! Borrow the boss's car!
If you're coming straight up to Tulsa, Enid is another 2 hours west. Why don't you just buy my hood while you're here?
The one good thing about the Starbird show is that it seems to kick start the show season.

Well ... a hood definitely won't fit in the 'bosses' car. It's a funny thing.... she gets the 'family car' she wants (2002 Collectors T/A), but now we have to rent an SUV to take 'family vacations'. But when I was looking @ 6spd Firehawks/SS camaros they were out of the question because they weren't 'family friendly' meaning they would be 'my car', not a 'family car'. Does anyone else notice a double standard here or what????

The hood is for my 68 beater.

It's actually about a $5 show, but the extra $10 is to pay for all the damn radio and tv spots that have been shoved down our throats for the past two weeks.
Dave, that's a good idea, I'm going to be as annoying as hell about my hood until it sells!
SCOTI, double standard, sure, likely to change, never.

Funny thing is that all the Starbird made cars are pretty wierd looking and of no interest to me...I wish we could get a different show to come here like Goodguys or something else. It is cool to see that many cars in one place though. When we first started going there we were sticker getting fools! I bet I had 10 Moroso and Holley stickers on my truck back then, come to think of it...I was a dork:p

And the rest of the cars there you can see for free at any of the Tulsa cruise-ins.
