my guages arent working!

Ok so im stumped. I had my guage cluster out to replace the washer pump and when i put it back in, none of the electric guages seem to work. The fuel just reads half tank when it should read full and the temp reads 1/4 when the engine is cold and doesnt move when the engine heats up either. I took the dash back out and inspected all the wires connections and i cant find anything. I thought maybe ground, but im not sure if thats it, because the lights in the dash still work, its just the guages that arent working. Any help would be awsome Thanks.

Re: my guages arent working!

Check the back of the cluster where the printed circuit attaches to the wiring harness. Make sure all the little copper fingers on the printed circuit are straight and not touching eachother.

Re: my guages arent working!

I looked and they are all straight. Is there a ground designated to these guages that I am missing? Thanks again.

Re: my guages arent working!

You may want to look again, I was chasing down a temp gauge no-workey for weeks, finally found that the printed circuit copper finger wasn't seating right when I plugged in the connector - so if it looks right when the connector is out, it may still be the issue.

look for wiring diagrams on this site, it'll help you positively id the problem. Temp gauge is a good one to look at because it's a simple powered/resistance thing (follow the power from the ignition switch to the dash printed board, out to the sending unit).

Re: my guages arent working!

On my 72 the temp gauge gets powered from the fuel gauge so if they both are not working check the fuses to see if you popped one. Make sure you don't have a bulb in the idiot light for the temp light, that will kill the temp gauge. The amp gauge has 2- 4 amp fuses 1 near the regulator and one near the battery. I shorted something and popped one and the amp gauge stopped working. There is a ground in that connector but if the dash lights work I think it should be ok.
