Lets see your hood locks!!!

I am posting this sort of in tandem with my thread about local hoodlums vandalizing and trying to make off with me trucko. How do you all have your hoods locked up? Pictures and or setup instructions would be very very welcome. Thanks!

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

No pics, but I use a Kryptonite motocycle cable lock that has the lock built in and run it through the hood and around the actual hood latch assy... access is between the top of the grill and the grill support panel.

You should be able to pick one up at your local motorcycle shop. This is the one I use.

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

Look behind your hood latch. You can weld or maybe bolt a bracket behind it and drill a hold through it and use a pad lock on the latch. Someone had a picture of this once but not on this forum.

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

Only 2 people have any interest in locking their hoods in this crowd? Really? Some of your trucks should be sealed in an impermeable bubble so dust can't even get on them and you don't lock your hoods?

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

I also used to use a bike lock. But now that my car nears completion I would like something a little more fancy.

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

I seen a 63 with a pad lock setup. Seems the latch had a hole or a tab&hole in it to accomodate the lock. I should have taken a pic of the set up. Oh well - more research!

I'm very interested and have thought about locking the hood... but no solution to offer. Just lurking in hopes of seeing a cool idea for now. Sorry for your thefts by the way... I am really glad I have a locked garage. One security idea I have used is pulling the fuel pump fuse when I'm away from my truck to keep someone else from starting it.

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

I don't have time for the search for ya... But I do remember someone on here converted their hood latch to a cable pull style...

Here's the link to the article mentioned above - Check out Putters "In cab hood release" article - a neat way to secure the hood. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=136797

Re: Lets see your hood locks!!!

The one issue I can see with converting a '60-'66 truch to a inside hood release is that on these trucks the 'latch' is on the hood instead of on the radiator support like on the '67 and newer. Of course a guy could run a release cable on the hood but I'm not sure how well it would work with how the hood opens. It raises up back at the cowl. It might work as long as the necessary slack didn't create a problem.
