Re: Me making a motor hit
Why so??? All of them look the same to me..... is it because it is so twisted up???
Are STRANGE axles known(or thought to be) weaker than other brands????

Re: Me making a motor hit
That ought to be the last axles you ever have to buy. Moser is great stuff.
Indian rider,, sorry I missed your question. Let me put it this way. I twisted a 33 spline Strange SS axle in the 9" in the truck (12 second machine), then snapped a Strange Drag axle in the Nova when it was running 10.3's, replaced it (like a fool) and twisted the other when the Nova dipped into the high 9's. Now that it is into the 9.teens,, it has nothing but a set of MarkWilliams axles. I've pulled them every season and they are as straight as the day they went in there. IMO strange axles are nothing but junk. I do run one of Strange's aluminum Pro-gear centersections in the Nova and it's held up flawlessly. But I'll never risk my life on another Strange axle,, NEVER.

Re: Me making a motor hit
I am preparing for the 23rd race . Exhaust is out . Trans swap ( to powerglide ) is about half way done . Working on wiring for transbrake and nitrous . Changing from short tubes to long tube headers , as I found a set of new un used super comps on Craigslist . The old exhaust won't work as im going 3.5" and the fuel tank is in the way . I will not have enough time to to install a fuel cell so i'll have to have an acception in the exhaust . I also bought a new Kirkey and fresh belts , but it might not get installed due to time constraints . I'm hoping freeing up the exhaust and the glide with brake will get it in the .40 - .50 range so i can be competitive . I will be busy this weekend and next week .

Re: Me making a motor hit
Just thought id throw out an update . Got the rear axle back together and the glide installed . Also put a set of large tube full lenth hooker super comp headers on it . @ 3200 lbs on an 82 jet and a dot drag radial , I put my best ever pass of 10.36 @ 127 . I backed that up with a 6.45 @105 @ the small track that evening . 12" to 18" wheelie every pass and dead hooked . It went 1.50 60' right out of the box . I'll play with the bars and see how much "hit" the radials will take . About 5 pics have surfaced already , if any good ones show up i'll post' em .

Re: Me making a motor hit
Maybe a silly question, but did you put an extension of the header if it open still? Evey thing I have seen says at least an 18" extension from the headers increases hp and tq, just wondering if you did (I am sure you guys all know that, but want to ask, and see if it is true/noticeable at all?) BTW that thing keeps mocking me, I drive by the Luv I talked about last year, free just come get it and I haven't done it as I have nowhere to hide it! Complete running driving truck when parked, pull the 4 out and sell it, then V8, and I'll be getting it (maybe not exactly like yours, but!) Maybe I'll get it and let it sit untill I have the time, back surgery has put the brakes on any wrenching for about 6-8 months, oh well I can still live life through this board and forum

Re: Me making a motor hit
I just welded a set of Schofield dirt track mufflers to the collectors for now . They let me run in the jackpot saturday , but it will have to be within 16" of the rear axle before the next official race . Prolly gonna pull this little motor and try and get the big one in it before the next one . Intend to paint it the same color and just not tell anyone its been changed . i'll still be under the CI limit. The fastest pass saturday night was a 6.11 from a metric malibu with a 406 .

Re: Me making a motor hit
396 SBC, I can't wait to see the picts!! I am envious in so many ways!! I have diddle around with so many different projects instead of focusing on one and getting done or at least to a good point. I think of all the $$$ I have spent all over on the various projects and figure I could have finished one or two nice running ones if I had just focues!! The 383 I had built is just one of the attempts at focusing (ADD meds help, I just was diagnosed about 6 months ago!), so being able to concentrate on one thing and see it through is a skill I am honing now. I think this Luv is too cool!! I rolled with a buddy back in the early 90's in a 355 powered Luv and it was the coolest, now your's and I am thinking hard on doing one! Congrats on the time, and can't wait to see picts of the stealth motor swap?!

Re: Me making a motor hit
Thanks for the props guys . This is the fastest i've been . The 396 is kinda on hold . I live in the galveston bay area and we have alot of off shore boats down here . My machinist has a shop full of Scarab type boat motors . I walk in and there 2 Bryant billet cranks with the works for 2 509's and 5 BIG small blocks being machined . it's hard for a buisness man to stop and work a day and a half on my junk when he can just keep working on serious profit jobs as there is only so much summer action . He will always have a winter full of race cars and the faster i go with the little motor the more he sales . He has peoplr call him before i do telling him about what i do . The class im runnin will be a 5.80 class eventually .

Re: Me making a motor hit
Too sweet, and I used to live down in Nedeland and was at the beach/Galveston nearly every weekend, those boys play with some big toys and the $$$ they spend is serious. Oil picking back up has I am sure injected some more $$$ into the economy as well!!

Re: Me making a motor hit
Man, I do like that little Luv!
5.80s will be tough to run with your cubic inch. Are you guys limited on the jet size in your plate? You're runnin' 6.40s right now with roughly a 200 shot. If you can jet up, there's more to be had, obviously, but I don't remember seeing if you had posted up your class rules. What plate are you running? A 300 shot would pick it up another couple tenths or so, but that 350 is only going to go so fast. Can you guys run a progressive or multi-stage?

Re: Me making a motor hit
Workin on cubes , like DJ said . I posted a thread about tthe rules awhile back but 82 is the jet limit . My tune up is probably as edgy as it gets . I run a cheater plate . I don't think the bottom end would hold 300 , but im would try it if they would let me . They check the round winners jet after every pass while it is on the scale . Basically stock suspension , drag radial (can only got one size above 275 ) , 3200 for 410 max small block 3500 for 470 max big block , all glass , full interior , state inspection type stuff , exhaust within 12" of rear axle . NO progressive controllers , 76 mm turbo with no intercooler . Basically the ragged edge of streetable http://texastuffstreet.com/EVILSTREET.htm

Very cool little truck! Surely there are better plates out there than an old school Cheater?

The 82 jet rule makes it tough to pill it up!! If it were me and I was trying to win in this class( as opposed to just competing ), I would build as close to a 410" motor as I could. With the best heads I could afford. This applies if the rules state 410" max. If it's a pounds-per-cube deal, then I'd be looking at something a little smaller and getting as much weight out of the truck as I could. I will say that for a 350, you've got it running pretty good!

Re: Me making a motor hit
Im waiting on the machine shop on the other motor . Taht is why im trying to be competitve with the little motor . I wish it where a pounds per cubic inch class id be alot better off , as the truck usually weights in @ just under 2900 # . I have weight bolted in the truck to make 3200 # s . I also think going to a 26" tire would help . I would go with a 400 , but the stuff i have and my budget will only allow for the 396 . It went 6.45 the other night , if i can get it into the 6.30's i can run with them . the fastest pass is like 6.11 right now . Looks like someone has called the king out for his spot . I'll probably get in on this if this hurricanne doesn't blow us away . For a call out everyone put's up $100 , qualifies and gets stacked on a ladder , the winner gets to run the king heads up for the money and the title . one shot one kill . At the event the king just shows up and makes one hit and runs the winner of the class for the kingdom .
