Placement question
I just went out today and bought myself some new 6.5" JL speakers. I would like to place them near the bottom of the door but the problem is there is a vent there and I was wondering if i put it there would there be a problem with a gap on the sides? If so where would be the next best spot?
thanks everyone |

Re: Placement question
the vent IMO would be a bad idea seeing as how moister can reach the back of your speaker possibly hurting life and SQ of the speaker. they make kick panel kits for the truck that dont look all to bad but if it were up to me i would build a small centerconsole type unit and mount the speakers in there or cut holes in the doors.

Re: Placement question
hmm honestly i have never checked to see where the air from the vents comes from bit i have noticed leaves and suck coming out of them that sort of leans me towards the vent between your hood and your window. basicly your just gonna want to try to block that off. or not drive when it is raining/ has just rained mud puddles ect.
i dont see any problem with humidity oh and i had ponderd directly behind the speakers but that will be trick due to the fact that they are "free air" speakers and without proper ventilation your bass will be sacrificed.

Re: Placement question
You can buy foam speaker baffles to protect them from water. Check these out:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Qk8C9Va...s.html?tp=2809 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e?...fles&x=23&y=22 I have a pair of 5 1/4" component speakers mounted in my kickpanels. I cut holes in the metal and mounted them there. I dont use these foam baffles because I never drive my truck in the rain. So I dunno how well they actually work. But its an option.

Re: Placement question
I drive my truck rain or shine, daily, for more than two years. I've had two different component sets from two different companies in the kicks, and I have never had a problem with water damage, corrosion, or whatever else people might try and tell you is bad about putting a speaker there...
