Re: tailgate handle flip

AI used a Sir Michaels kit. It worked out nice. It was easy to do. If you are using a blazer band you wont even have to do any bodywork just weld the filler plate in and grind the welds and touch up the paint.

No man, go ahead and mount the band then shut the tailgate. I am sure you will figure out some way to open it....

Re: tailgate handle flip

believe me i have wanted to do it plenty of times i just seem to get back into my right mind, i guess thats why they say patience is a vertue.
1984 swb, why would i have to weld that piece in? the band covers the whole thing doesnt it? the band i have has a small dent and im going to put it for now until i find a good metal worker to take out the small dent it has because i saw how much a new one runs.
Let me know what you think if i have to weld that plate in or not. I turn to you guys whenever i need an answer i always get it here.

i just did mine and i did weld in the plate. dont know why just did. i also got my band fitted. you do know the blazer band wont just bolt on, you have to take your old tailgate band apart and use the mounting bracket. i had to trim about a 1/4" of the sides of truck bracket to make it fit the blazer band. good luck joe

Re: tailgate handle flip

The band will cover the hole in the tailgate. I guess you can get away without welding the filler piece in. I have a mig welder so it was no0thing to weld the filler piece in. If you dont have a mig just run the band without the filler.
