anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
I recently noticed that my driver side front tire is closer to the fender and then my passenger side and the rear tire is closer to the rear tire well ont he pass side. Assuming both rims are the same offset anyone know why or how to fix this issue?

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
The track on the front is 2" wider than the rear. There are several theories on why they made them this way. The one I remember best is to help prevent the from getting stuck by not having the rear tires run in any ruts created by the fronts.
You could run 1" spacers to bring the rear out to the same width.

About all I can think of would be you have some broken center pins on your leaves that have allowed the axles to migrate - very odd.

I see that now. I misread his post. I thought he was saying the front stuck out more than the back.

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
It is called crab walking and or dog something, anyways, assumings the wheels are all the same offset (you need to be sure as it has happened to me before where 2 wheels are 3" and 2 are 4" and then they get mixed up during a rotation and you get an ugly mess!), but if all that is OK you need to look at you brackets, bushings, etc and replace any worn or broken parts. BTW 2 or 4 wd? 4X's could be bushings, springs, leaf pins as said above, etc. Just get a tape out and pull the tires/wheels and measure, look for anything out of the ordinary like loose U-bolts, etc.

That's it! Kinda common on 4X4's not sure why, but have seen a few of them looking likr the rear is racing the front to the next light.

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
As far as dog tracking goes, that's due to the rear axle being out of alignment. I'm sure there are many reasons why this happens, but on lifted/lowered trucks it's b/c the axle wasn't aligned when the suspension was altered.
But I think(?) the OP is talking about his front wheels, in which case the above won't apply. Has the vehicle been aligned recently? Might be a good place to start....

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
Since his is a 2wd maybe it has something to do with body/frame mount alignment, since it appears to be lowered I could see how the rearend might become misaligned(in fabrication), but I don't see how the frontend could be wrong with lowering
Don't know for sure as I go up not down

I can't or didn't find where OP said two or four wheel drive? I was just guessing at a couple of causes of the wheels sticking out, and mostly on 4X's but the body alignment could cause it on either 2 or 4wd. If I missed the OP's description, sorry, point it out so I can see it. Thanks. |

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
If the body has been off the frame for a resto it could be just sitting on the frame crooked. I was suprised how crooked it would fit on and still bolt up.

Oh, oops, I was thrown off by this for a bit,, but I think I got it now, the "why did you buy a Blazer thread" is where he posted picts, right? Sorry. I guess the body beng crooked is a good place to look or verifying the offsets on the wheels are the same, too?? Last edited by 70rs/ss; 07-31-2008 at 06:44 PM. |

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
Correct, I didn't make it very clear...but somewhere in there could be or is misalignment, I didn't take measurements when I started my build. It could hide until final assembly, might be a lesson in there for all of us

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
Sorry Guys I am a dork and forgot to subscribe to my own thread. Ok the rear is fixed becasue it was lowered with some home made blocks by the previous owner and now with ece drop kit all is well in the rear (hotrodhomi) wins that one. As far as the fron goes so far I see a modified lowered control arm once again homemadew style stuff so when I get some new control arms I am assuming the front will be ok otherwise I will look at the body. WE are litterally talking about maybe 3/4 so a misalighned frontend or body mount sounds reasonable. thanks guys Here is a new pic with lowering in the rear
Ps: Yeah it is a 2wd also and I havent found any reasons to think it is a tweaked frame but unless I really get it off of there who knows. THanks for the help guys. NOw I think I ahve to sell the rims BOO HOO Last edited by r1lorenzini; 08-04-2008 at 08:56 AM. |

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
Well if it's homemade parts on the front, I'm willing to bet something is off. Get the updated parts on and get it aligned. Hopefully that will solve the problem. As far as the frame goes, you can measure it for squareness (front to back and in an "X" pattern.)

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
FYI, cutting the spring pocket out and adding an inch of metal and welding it back together isn't really a cobbled way to lower the front, just a low buck creative way. If it isn't done right or "quality" then it may be unsafe. If you want to be for sure, just put a tape under the fender (front and rear) to the frame on both sides in the same spot (on the fender) and compare the numbers. If one side is closer or further away, then it is clip or tub alignment, if it is the same then the front end could be th eculprit. If you want to swap arms it is a moot point, but if the lowered arms are quality and not the issue then save the $$$? Looks sweet!!

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
If the A-arms weren't modded properly, couldn't that throw off the geometry?

Re: anybodys wheels stick out more on one side then the other?
Yeah I dont know exactly what was done but I think they call it "boxed"? Anyhow looks like a tab or something is welded on it. Never really tripped because I figured I'd get some tubular control arms or something
