Windshield wiper not shutting off
daughter just called and said the wipers won't shut off... She's with her boyfriend (who probably turned them on in the first place).
Hopefully he'll know how to disconnect the switch. I assume that's what it is. |

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
My truck had the same problem when I got it, the motor itself was the problem. I had to unplug the motor to turn them off. In my case just unplugging the switch didn't shut them off.

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
It's generally a short in the motor.

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
My 79 "mystery wipes", even with the ignition off. I keep the motor unplugged.

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
Thanks guys,
Yep, unplugged the switch and it kept running.... took out the fuse for now. Figures.... I just replaced the fan switch this morning. Ordered a motor ($70). Wish this would of happened before the new paint job. I dread taking the windshield wiper arms off with this fiberglass cowl and fresh paint... Last edited by Mondo; 08-03-2008 at 11:51 PM. |

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
Might be able to find the special tool for it someplace. At one time when these trucks were real plentiful snapon had a puller. Haven't seen one for years everyone uses rags & a big flat screwdriver.

Re: Windshield wiper not shutting off
Well guess it was what I needed to finish the truck and paint the Dash (the last gold paint left on the shiny red truck). Was avoiding taking the dash and everything apart to paint.
Got the wipers off without any damage to the paint Took the gauge panel out, radio etc... noticed the wiper motor was a remanufactered one from Napa (pretty clean and sticker still on it). Anyway, the only part I can't get off is the passenger A/C vent. This is a Vintage Air system and it's really tight there... no room to unscrew it. Guess I'll post another thread asking for help on that now. |
