Seat Option for AD Trucks
For those of us with ADs who choose to replace the seat with something else for better access, comfort or looks I have found a new option you may want to consider.
I found this seat at a local salvage yard. It is from a late model (1995) GMC Safari SLT. The seat has integrated belts, arm rests and a fold down center console. The width side to side is 54 inches and the drivers position is centered behind the steering wheel. I had to take 4 inches off the riser and weld on a mounting flange of 3/16 plate. The rear mounting holes lined up perfectly with the rear cab supports so I only have to reinforce the front bolts. If you are looking for a seat you might keep your eyes open for one of these. There was one other seat there in the yard if any Houston area members need one. Drop me a line and I will give you the info. Last edited by Houston54; 06-23-2008 at 09:42 AM. Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
Nice find, what's the length from the floor to the bottom of the headrest, I'm thinking those would work in the 55 big window.

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
Did we ever get a measurment on this?
Anyone else find a good combo for the 55-59 trucks? I'm looking around for an 88-95 full size to put in so I could take an extra kid with me...

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
I think those were the rear seats from the GMC Safari, I went to the yard and found them to be rear seats. I'm still looking for something that will fit the 55-59 big window that has intergrated beats. I was told to look at the late model Chryster Sebring convertable seats. They are low enough and have the beats built in.

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
Does that seat have the fold down arm rest for the driver?

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
Try looking at Chevy Tahoe's and similar, I had seen a few at the Barrie Auto Flea Market with the integrated seat belts.

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
I am not able to provide the requested dimension as I have already modified the seat to fit my application. I would think this seat would not be wide enough for a task force truck. I am planning to use a middle row seat from a 99 Suburban for my 58. The only draw back to that is it does not mount on tracks but being tall this is not a problem.
The seat shown is the third row seat from the Safari van. The middle row seat does not have the integrated seat belts on both sides. After using the seat for over 1,000 miles I am happy with it. Sure beat paying big bucks to rebuild an original or other donor. |

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
Yes it does. I am not sure if the middle row seat assembly from the Safari/Astro vans have the tracks but the rear seat assembly does.

Do both sides fold forward? What type of mounting is on the bottom?

Re: Seat Option for AD Trucks
It is a tight fit for my AD but will work out. Both seat backs fold forward and it attaches with 4 bolts to the floorboard. You can find a bunch of 2nd row GM products (Suburban, Yukon, Escalade) on Ebay. I paid $300 but nothing for freight as the seller was here in Dallas.
