Re: ????? Trans Swap???????

Well you will need an auto x member, trans oil cooler, Linkage and tv cable setup, and driveline work. Bowtie overdrives should have all the info you need.

Re: ????? Trans Swap???????

I just finished this swap. Here is my list

replacement crossmember $100
brake light switch from a early 80's chevy with cruise to make the lock up function properly $15.00 plus some wire and connectors
cooler lines $60
Radiator or cooler. I chose the radiator route, Live in Florida, and bought a 4 row radiator for an automatic truck. A/C is next in this truck. To do this you will need different radiator mounts from any of the truck suppliers. $200 or so
steering column. I bought a used tilt column for $100. BUT it needed going thru. I sent it to STEERING COLUMNS GALORE $225. new seals for column also
tv cable lokar product $65 it is easier to hook up to a Holley or Edelbrock carb. will also need a lokar cable connector at the carb $20.00
I did not like how close the starter was to the exhaust pipes, and bought a mini starter $150.00 you will need a starter regardless, as the OE starter bolts to the bellhousing.
I also had my trans guy help me have my 700r4 LOCK UP in third and fourth gear. My truck has a 3.73 rear gear in it, and I love the third gear lock up. It is done with a pressure switch in the valve body. SO how much money did I spend all of the above and $700 rebuilt trans and new converter. plus a $100 core trans I supplied. did the install myself

Re: ????? Trans Swap???????

I would also recomend a radiator because water cools better than air and heat KILLS autos and make sure you set the trans pressures or it won't last. When you get that far do a search and there is a post that I have some info on pressures.

Re: ????? Trans Swap???????

I went through Monster Transmission and got the 700r4 With external lock-up kit and TCI's constant pressure valve body installed. On the transmission part all I had to do was run a power wire for the lock-up kit and set the T/V cable. Without TCI's valve body you have to make sure you set it right or the pressures will be off and you will burn up your transmission.

I would also recommend the radiator for an auto transmission.

Truck is now finished to the new owners design and running around.
I was shown some pictures of the finished product. At least it survived the junk yard.
