Custom bumpers?

I plan to bring the bumpers on my '76 in a little closer to the body. I have seen it done to a few cars, and a couple of 67-72 trucks but never on a 73-87. Has anyone done this before? I would also like to see what other ideas have been thought of as far as bumpers go. I know rollpans are used alot, but I don't plan on using one for either the front or the rear. Lets see what you got.

Re: Custom bumpers?

The bolts are welded in and smoothed out and they are spanish red like the whole truck! The licenceplateholder in the rearbumper is fabbed out of aluminum and the plan is to polish that later!
Moving the rearbumper in a little is no big problem but then you have a nice small gap under the tailgate and the ends stand out very far and that looks bad.My skills in metallwork arenīt good enough to section them and weld them back together!Even though iīd like to!

Re: Custom bumpers?

Very nice. Thanks for the link. Is that your truck in your profile pic? I don't remember seeing it in Mustang, then again it's been a year since I've been there.

Yeah, I like the looks of the bumpers without the bolts. Looks like my truck will not be here until Jan or so. I was just up near Bremen the other day, I thought it sounded familiar. Why the lights under the rear bumper?

Re: Custom bumpers?

wow! thats similiar to what I am looking to do. Is the bumper actually welded to the fenders? Did you trim the ends at all?

If your talking about my truck.. the bumper is seprate from the truck, it took 2 bumpers, and 2 fender repair panels to get the look I was after. The bumper was tottally reworkd, shaved, shortend, tucked...

Why does it come over later?
I think itīll land in Bremerhaven when it comes over with the ship.Thats just 70 miles away from here!
The backuplight is required in Germany and its under the bumper because the turnsignals had to be amber and they are now in the backuplighthousings.
The other is a foglamp. Its not a must for pre 1985 vehicles but it equals the look a little bit!

I am picking the truck up from Kaiserslautern. That might be where it comes in to country from boat, but I think it gets trucked down here. Will I need to do the same thing to my truck? The list just keeps getting longer!

Maybe you can get a special permission for the red turnsignals but the hazardflashers have to override the brakelights so there is some electrical work to do!

Here is my front bumper that we made 7 years ago. We put 3" lights in and shaved it then put a lower air dam on.

Yeah, thats what I plan to do. Did you do this to your front also? How much did you bring it in? How much room is left to bring it in more? Looks good, can't wait to do mine.

I plan on doing this as well, but I have to scoot the bumper in even more because I moved the bed forward about 3/4 of an inch to close up that gap as well.

Boatpuller- do you remember how much you moved the bumper forward? It would save me having to put the bed back on to mock it up....
