Alternator
My alternator and or voltage regulator is out on my '72 suburban. Should I replace it with a newer one-wire alternator with internal voltage regulator or go back with the original style? What are the pros and cons?

Go to the internally regulated alternator, it's an easy and worthwhile upgrade. I have the kit available to make this a very easy change, PM me if you are interested and I will give you the details.

I just did this two days ago. I would go with the one wire alternator, you won't believe the difference this makes. I bought my alternator from scoggin dickey's, I got the 140 amp, 1 wire alternator. It is easy, at first I had some problems, but once I got it wired in and seen, how it works, every thing is cut and dry. PM me if you want more details.

Sam, I didn't know you used a 140 amp alt., why? Standard delco alt. is all you need.

Larry,
I went on ahead and went with the 140, wasn't that much more, and later on I am planning on putting a good sterio system in it, and felt like it would be good to go with the 140. I pmed you about how I wired it up. It is the same way that piston, ( member of board ) does his, he has a drawing out that shows just how to do it. Sam

Could someone post this information as a article for everyone to see........
I'm currently still running the old style, and after reading posts on the subject was considering changing it over along with an HEI distributor.....
