Rear coilsprings to soft????

I have a big block 72 c-10 with the cpp 2 inch front springs 2 1/2 spindles and cpp sway bar in the front. In the rear I have the 5 inch cpp coils and 2 inch alum blocks. All the way around I have the nitro DOESCHTECH drop shocks also from cpp. Oh and of course a notch. My problem is the rear springs seem to real soft... I have heard these cpp rear drop spring are a little soft and they seem to be... when I drive down the road a following car can clear see the rear wheels cycle up and down a few inches rapidly the front seems smooth.

What do you guys think?

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

Hopefully with 7" rear drop you installed the shock relocators to regain shock travel. Did you do this?

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

my springs are 5 inch rear, not cpp. it only takes 50 pounds in the bed to lower the truck half an inch. they're really soft. i put about 200+ pounds of fence material in there with a full tank and it rode on the stock frame.

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

I run 2 inch lowered springs and 2 and half inch lowered spindles from CPP in the front. In the rear I run the 3 inch lowering springs from CPP and a 2 inch lowering block with Doesch shocks. The rear was soft so I cut the lowering blocks in half and made it better. The shocks dont last.

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

Ya I did install the shock relocation brackets from cpp as well. To be honest I called cpp about this and the tech I spoke with had know idea what the spring rate of any of there springs where, and whether or not they where progressive or not. It has lead me to believe that may be the spring is just a low rating if they have know idea what they even are...pretty incredible for a company as large as Cpp that sells as many high end parts to not have the tech specs on there products.

So should I switch to a better brand spring or just go to the 4" HD spring they sell? I would like to tow with this truck a few times a summer.

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

I have never towed with my truck. HD springs will make towing better for the few times you tow with it but the ride will suffer the rest of the time.

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

I think they have to be soft to give a good ride.

I plan on either helper bags or just bag the rear. I thought about air shocks but I don't think they make them to work with lowered suspension (for standard driving around). If someone knows different....

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

if you want to tow but yet still have it sit low then you either need the HD springs and deal with the ruff ride the times youre not towing or just bag the rear of the truck

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

I run a soft rear spring with Air-lift bags that I get at Jeg's.They are about 81 bucks a set and IMO they work great. You can adjust the air pressure easily for cruising or hauling.I think they call them drag bags.

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

I have not heard any good about the rear CPP springs. Everything I have ever read talked about being too soft, hence the reason I went with ECE springs. They are lowered but still rated for the factory 1/2 ton rating. I have heard CPP rear springs are actually passenger car springs.

Also, those shocks have never been known to be the best ones and tend to fade (lose damping control) as they heat up. Not that I am a fan of KYB shocks (I use Bilstein on almost everything) but they are better then Doucetech (sorry my mini truck days coming back).

Re: Rear coilsprings to soft????

The coils are about sorry as they come. I have mine lowered 3" with their springs. I ended up buying the air helper springs. They don't sale a kit for our year truck so I got the ones the tech said to get. I'm running 15PSI in them and haven't bottomed out yet. That's with nothing in the bed. I'm very pleased with them and it was all less than $150.00 installed. The ride is great.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
