Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

wildmanaaron- That has to be the best looking "custom" version of these seats I have seen. They still retain most of the factory styling, yet give them a fresh look.

Frank, I have heard that they offer more leg room, and that would be an asset. I have to twist my right leg at an awkard angle now and it starts to cramp on a long trip.

Do you prefer the early style console, or later? I know the eraly style console would be "correct" for my 77, but I can't decide which one a like.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Ken, the 81+ consoles are junk IMO. Every one I have seen has cracks in it (especially in the rear by the hinge), and they just seem cheap and look cheesy IMO. The 80 and older consoles seem to hold up better, look better, and are indeed "correct" for your 77. I guess you know what I would do if I were you.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Jeff, I agree that the 81+ don't seem to hold up well. For some reason I like the aesthetics on them a little more than the 73-80 version.

Still trying to decide which way to go altogether. I really love the looks of the buckets, I just hate to give up the ability to carry two passengers rather than one.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Frank- those seats really cleaned up well. They look awesome in that truck.

Ken- the 73-80 console is indeed tougher. They have a tendency to crack around the mount holes, though. The early ones had slots to hold the seat belt buckles, and later ones actually had cupholders. The switch was 76 or 77. I haven't had a 76 model Blazer, but I do know 77 had cupholders (round inserts) and 75's had the slots.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

If you had 3 point belts, you got the cup holders...lap belt trucks got the slots (or seatbelt holders). I think 76 had cup holders, 75 and older had the older console.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

That makes good sense. I knew up to 75 Blazers had lap belts only, but wasn't sure about the trucks and Subs. That being said, my 73 didn't have shoulder belts, either.

Do any of the forum vendors sell these complete or do you have to luck out at a yard?

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

You might can still get a later console that is left over from GM, but I honestly haven't checked.
AFAIK the earlier versions are NOT being reproduced, so the salvage yard is your best bet.

Ken,
IF you get one, get the 76-80 verion, it has cupholders, and it matches the "correct" model version, and it is sturdier.

Otherwise, build you a buddy seat setup. Where is Keith, put him to work...

Chris, there are reproduction ones out there, but they don't look near as good as the originals. Classic Industries sells them.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Jeff- Who was the forum member that rebuilt your? He did a killer job on it.

Jon- I don't think those are the seats you sold to Frank. I believe those are the seats that came in the truck he just bought.

Chris- Keith is knee deep in car/truck projects right now. He is getting his Buick wagon ready for Goodguys, and the Porterbuilt back half is being shipped for his sons truck. His automotive A.D.D. is on warp drive right now.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Ken, I restored mine. Stripped it, and finished it with SEM products. Thanks for the compliments. I also restored a black one too...and sold it.

Chris, they make them for both...although their year breakdown is incorrect.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Jeff- My bad, I thought you had yours done. You did an awesome job.
I know there is a forum member that specializes in restoring them. I'll have to find his name again.

Have you seen the Classic Industry console in person? Why don't you like it?

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Ken, it is PT'S 70 CST who you are thinking of.

The pic of the console in their catalog looks a little clearer, and looks cheap to me. The pic on their site does not look clear enough to judge accurately.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

Yeah don't waste your money on it. We ordered one from the manufacturer once and it was just cheap looking.

It might do the job but nowhere near like it should!

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

I really haven't had any luck finding a later model console that wasn't cracked up in the back. I didn't like the styling of the earlier model, until Jeff posted that picture--it looks good. So I guess I can start looking for one of those also.

You might. I can't remember if there is a floor bracket, but if there is, grab that too.

Re: Pic Request- Squares with low back buckets!

I think I know where one of the older style ones are. If it isn't totally rotten, and I decide I don't want it, I will post also.
