Dash pad
Anyone care to offer their suggestions as to the easiest and simplest way to remove the dash pad?

The easiest way is with everything else pulled out of the dash. Yeah I know, I only had all my stuff removed because I'm doing a total rebuild. There are about five nuts behind the pad. If you can get your hands/nut driver up in there, it's not bad. It's tougher threading the nuts back on.

There is no easy way.... Unless you are a contortionist you will probably need to remove the glove box liner and the instrument cluster and for your sake I hope it doesn't have a radio. To remove the cluster I think you have to drop the steering column down. It's not a two hour job...  LockDoc

and it gets WAY worse if it is an A/C truck. you WILL cuss the center vent.

Just had mine out,it is harder to get back in,but with the glove box out you can get to at least 3 nuts. If you take off your heat hose to the drivers side it will help get some arm space under the dash to get the other 3.They're the tough one's.Good luck.

 - having done this myself - I wouldn't put the nuts back on the studs - I will save you a headache in the future if you leave them off.Also - when I pulled the dash pad off the A/C parts truck - I wondered why the heck they put the center vent where they did - I wanted to cut the dash to get it out - it was that big of a PITA. Hey guys for the future when i take mine off, a few of you say not to put the nuts back on. What do you use to hold it in place,double sided tape or velcro or what.

I use as many socket extensions that I had in my tool box for the one behind the instrument cluster. Mine does not have a/c or a glove box so that side was easy. With that many extensions I was able to turn the ratchet from down by the pedals. It is just a bear to get it started by balancing the nut in the socket but it worked.

You can put the center ones back on (it wouldn't be such a pain to get to them) - but I would forgo the ones on the very end (that cause you to remove the glovebox and the cluster.
Also - there are screws holding it into the dash as well - so it isn't just the nuts holding it on there. |

I had mine re-covered in Ultra leather,and I put the nuts back on,but not the screws.It looks alot nicer with no screw holes,but it was still secure.It wasn't too bad because I had everything out of the dash.
