Can you recommend great valve cover gaskets ...

for my sb with cheap crome covers? The fit is not that great and with cork gaskets there is oil leaking onto exhaust. I even used those flat metal pieces around the bolts to give them more bite on the edges. I'll try another set of gaskets and sealer (both sides) before I buy better fitting covers. BTW, it is a '68 327 stocker. Thanks again in advance.

Make sure you check the flanges. They can be bent or warped from overtightening. If you are very careful you can tap them straight with a small ball pein hammer.Often this is what causes the leaks.
Just a heads up.

Re: Can you recommend great valve cover gaskets ...

I prefer Versa Chem brand Mega grey or Mega black. Those are gasket makers. Clean both surfaces with carb cleaner and paper towels. Then rub a thin layer into the head surface with your finger. That surface is very poreous and usually the root of the leak. Then a nice 1/4" bead on the valve cover with NO GASKET. Then put it on and let it dry overnight. BINGO!! No leaks EVER again. The only catch is if you have to remove the cover again it can take quite a bit of prying. That stuff adheres tenaciously!

Re: Can you recommend great valve cover gaskets ...

just use a bit of weather stripping adhesive on the cover side and nothing on the other side its always worked for me
be sure to let it dry on the valve cover before you bolt that baby down!!
